Welcome to Listen for REAL — a podcast where we expand our perspectives and connect more deeply through earthy conversation, curiosity, and soul-level revelations. I’m Jen Oliver — a woman shaped by a lifetime of privilege, inherited beliefs, and an echo chamber that once kept my limited worldview comfortably intact. That way of living (and viewing others) no longer works for me. It kept me performative, judgmental, and disconnected from the fullest expression of my truth — and distanced from other people. This podcast began as the antidote to that echo chamber. A space to lean into conversation with others whose world view, lived experience or belief system differed from my own. And now, in this new season, the show is evolving. We’re doubling down on the practice of truth-telling - I ask my guests to share a moment of truth or personal revelation that pushes past the more palatable things that we have been trained to say. Each episode brings unfiltered conversations, raw human honesty and courageous storytelling you can't get from scripted media. In addition, you will hear coaching, inner-work tools, and my own admissions to help us all step into a more honest, liberated, expansive way of being. There is no quicker way to pry open my mind than by telling me your truth —- Join the conversation.2020-2024 Listen for REAL Ciencias Sociales Relaciones

  • The truth is…I left a “good” marriage with no villain and no logical explanation
    Mar 10 2026
Episode overview In this candid, tender conversation, Jen Oliver and Jen Aks discuss what it means to tell the truth and end a relationship—especially when it was seemingly “really good.” There was no villain and no tidy explanation that satisfies logic. Jen Aks shares the pivotal choice to leave her 20-year marriage, the internal cost of trusting her body when her mind demanded proof, and how truth-telling reshaped her relationships, parenting, identity, and purpose. The conversation moves from truth as concept to truth as embodied practice: the difference between heart and gut, why the body “knows” first, and is a practical pathway to clarity, calm, and confident action. What you’ll hear in this episode The moment Jen Aks realized her body was whispering… then screaming (03:17–08:01)Why it’s hard to leave when nothing is “wrong” and everything looks “perfect” from the outside (03:47–05:50)The cost count: kids, guilt, family, finances, and society’s scripts (15:28–21:04)A powerful reframe: not just what you’re “taking,” but what you’re giving through truth (21:10–22:26)A relief valve for guilt: “This is their story now” + “hold people able” (23:38–26:58)The difference between heart vs gut, and why words aren’t always required for truth (13:39–14:59; 10:04–11:41)A practical tool: using hands/gesture to invite discomfort in, release it, and return to clarity (30:09–35:39)“Yes, and…”—how doubt can coexist with knowing (43:14–43:42)After the truth: shedding, spiritual awakening, and a deeper sense of mission (37:45–40:31; 49:54–50:43) Key takeaways Truth isn’t always logical. Sometimes there’s no checklist explanation—only a bodily knowing.Your body may speak before your mind can translate. Physical signals (nausea, headaches, agitation, craving solitude) can be information. Not having the words doesn’t invalidate the truth. “The feeling is enough.”Truth has costs—and also gifts. Especially with kids: the reframe is “What am I modeling for them?” You don’t need to villainize someone to leave. A relationship can be loving and still complete.Staying can be true, too. No shame—if you stay, the work is reclaiming yourself inside the choice.Embodied practices create clarity. Calm isn’t the goal; calm is the path to clarity and confidence. It’s never too late to tell the truth about how you handled the past. Repair and honesty can happen years later. Memorable concepts & frameworks mentioned Heart vs. gut: heart can be emotionally compelling; gut is a deeper “knowing” (13:39–14:59)Power of gesture: hands + nervous system + emotion processing (27:41–35:39)“Hold people able” from Susan Scott / Fierce Conversations (26:09–26:58) (also references Fierce Leadership)Relationship truth + dignity, referencing relationship mediator Staci Bartley (09:02–10:04)Jen Aks’ book and her TEDxFolsom talk (11:41–12:09) About Jen Aks: Jen Aks is a TEDx speaker, author, and leadership coach who helps people reconnect with their body's wisdom to unlock powerful, authentic leadership. • If AI was driven by your soul - what answers would it give!
    Jul 2 2025

I once believed - ignorantly - that “guidance” according to our star signs & astrological charts was for softheaded people needing the power of suggestion to make decisions. This conversation with Rachel Loewenherz blew my echo chamber wide open.

Rachel shares her journey from a traditional background, Ivy League education, and corporate career to embracing spirituality and astrology. Along the way she experienced tremendous losses and health challenges - which along with her expertise - also informed her creation of Star Path, an innovative AI tool designed to help individuals navigate their astrological insights and apply them to their lives.

Our conversation gets into the practical applications of astrology in navigating relationships, personal growth, and even in business contexts. Rachel emphasizes the importance of using astrology as a tool for empowerment rather than a means of placing blame, highlighting the role of free will in shaping our lives. This conversation was as liberating for me as it was illuminating.

    Post recording note:

I decided to try the Star Path app AFTER our episode was recorded; it is an indispensable tool. I’ve tested it on deeply private and personal matters in addition to business strategy and it is nothing short of accurate and instructive according to who I am at my core.

    Guest Bio:

Rachel Loewenherz is the founder of Star Path—an AI oracle powered by astrology. She’s a Yale-educated business strategist & tech marketer, former Chief of Staff, and 2-time CEO.

But that’s just on paper. Behind the scenes, she was losing pregnancies, healing from PTSD, and having a massive spiritual awakening. That’s when she found astrology.

Now she’s building Star Path - an AI that helps people remember who they are, and become who they came here to be.

  • Online dating with no pics - just your values?
    May 19 2025
I was always intrigued by the premise behind “Love Is Blind” - a reality show where singles try to find a match and fall in love -- without ever seeing each other face-to-face, as emotional connection attempts to conquer physical attraction. Full disclosure, I don’t watch TV so I haven’t seen an episode but still, the notion of moving beyond physical appearance and chemistry feels simultaneously intriguing and super risky. Then @Drew Taylor Cohen caught my attention with a post detailing her experience when building her @Bumble profile strictly on words stating her chosen values. NO perfect selfies.NO predictable prompts that yield, “I love to hike, travel, cook, walk my dogs and go wine tasting.” NO eggplant emojis. Just the personal values she attempts to live by. (Oh, and one picture of her at a distance to prevent being flagged as a bot). @Drew Taylor Cohen is an Impact Consultant and Values Coach, so we talked about how to identify our own chosen values and distinguish them from our beliefs and identities (something I rooted myself in historically). We also discuss the challenges of seeking validation from others while navigating personal choices and the need for self-awareness and the evolving nature of values as individuals grow and change. What an awesome conversation especially as I consider something similar in my own dating journey. Anyone relate? Join the conversation…Guest Bio:Trained in holistic, neurodiverse and values-aligned coaching techniques, Drew helps singles and couples break old patterns and align their values to find lasting love.Dedicated to finding love that felt soul-aligned and safe, she set out on a personal development journey that led her to discover her values and trust her needs and desires. What did she do next? She created a dating profile with no photos, just screenshots of her values and how she envisioned them being shared in an aligned partnership. And it worked! Her fiancé and her just celebrated four years of swiping right on the things that matter most.Through 1:1 coaching, she now helps her clients rewrite their own values-aligned love story and clarify what truly matters in love. Her aligned love method is about prioritizing your non-negotiables and curating love that mirrors the truth of who you already are.She also developed and leads the Live Authentically program. This workshop and accompanying workbook uses a proven framework that guides participants to explore who you are, discover your chosen values and pursue an aligned life. When she’s not helping people align their relationships and life to their values, she’s supporting purpose-driven organizations as a freelance impact consultant.
