Letters From the Road sends you stories and encouragement from your traveling friends, Jamie and Clay Schumacher. The pair are nomads traveling North America in their RV with their kids and dogs, checking out all the hikes and breweries they can along the way. Grab your favorite beverage and pull up a chair to our cozy campfire chat. We share a bit about our recent travels, a letter from Jamie’s Substack, and a discussion in each episode. Join us every Sunday.

  • Zion, Bryce, An Unfortunate Airport Shuttle, and Finding Time to be Creative
    Mar 29 2026

Have you heard of a hoodoo and do you know where they come from? Do you know why Bryce is not really a canyon? If you spit on the top of weeping rock do you know how long it will take to come back out? Jamie brings all the Utah parks facts back from her guide training trip there.

Then we talk a little about making time for creative pursuits including a (super early) indie game Clay and oldest are developing which is a cozy, pixel art vanlife sim game, and Jamie’s amazing watercolor landscapes and how she might share them!

Also discussed: A whole neighborhood of vacation houses in Utah, a harrowing trip home from SeaTac, and Emerald City ComicCon.

  • Winthrop, Hockey, and Patriarchy
    Mar 1 2026

It’s been a weird and warm winter here in Washington, and it basically feels like spring has sprung! And that means camping season! We flash back to our trip to the cute northern town of Winthrop, WA for Jamie’s birthday last fall and then talk spring break plans! Then we talk about laughing at sexist jokes and how you actually can just not. Then you don’t hurt your friends.

  • Talking About Not Knowing What to Say (LFTR 114)
    Feb 22 2026

This week we’re back again, and while we say we’re speechless we all know that’s impossible. At least we’re taking care of our tum-tums but friends, we’re having a hard time knowing what to say or do. In other words we’re all over the place. We cover picking the rig up and taking it to Cascade Locks, OR. Then we talk a little about the atrocities, because we can’t avoid it forever. We wrap with a fantastical and 100% happening LFTR Ham radio resistance, Jamie’s beautiful watercolors, and how we’re all screwed financially.
