Ignorance of the law is no excuse! That's true for a traffic stop, and it's true if you want to participate in whatever's left of American democracy. If the events since the 2016 election taught us anything, it's that tuning out is not an option. Legal journalists Liz Dye and Andrew Torrez break down the week's most important courtroom stories, so you can keep on top of this crazy news cycle. Whether it's Texas giving two middle fingers to the Supreme Court, or Donald Trump in all the courts at once, we've got you covered.© 2024 Ciencia Política Política y Gobierno

  • Ep 196 — None of this sh*t is legal!
    Jan 16 2026

The Trump administration’s war on Minnesota continues, and now the president is threatening to invoke the Insurrection Act. Clearly he thinks that is synonymous with declaring THE PURGE. But he’s wrong, and we’ll tell you why. Plus we’ve got good news(!) on California redistricting, green energy, and voting rights.

  • Ep 195 — Protect Jerome!
    Jan 13 2026

Markets are freaked out about the DOJ’s threats to Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell. And so are we! We’ve got a deep dive into a court order barring Trump from adding an extra-legal proof of citizenship requirement to voter registration forms and a breakdown of Illinois and Minnesota’s respective lawsuits against ICE and CBP. And for subscribers, we’ll explain why JD Vance’s claim that “Every president, Democrat or Republican, believes the War Powers Act is fundamentally a fake and unconstitutional law,” is utter BS.

  • Ep 194 — Justice For Renee Good?
    Jan 9 2026

Congressional Republicans defect to support two Democratic resolutions. It’s not exactly a show of spine — maybe a vertebrae — but is it the beginning of something? Yet another US Attorney gets disqualified, this time in New York. Meanwhile Judges in Virginia wonder how it’s remotely ethical for Lindsey Halligan to present herself in court filings as a US Attorney. The DOJ is violating the Epstein Files Transparency Act. And what legal recourse is there for the family of Renee Good, who was executed by ICE officers in Minneapolis. Plus for subscribers: Dominion tries to get Mike Lindell and Patrick Byrne to STFU long enough to wind down their litigation.

I follow several lawyers and podcasts because I enjoy hearing about crazy court cases, long suffering judges and constitutional law.

But recently I've made a point of listening to Law and Chaos because I want to keep an ear on the current POTUS and his administration.. and I believe that Andrew and Liz do an amazing job with that... accompanied by the sharp wit and sarcasm that can only be obtained from years of experience with the law (and with morons)

I (almost) always feel better after listening because most of the judges in the US are at least trying to reinstate the rule of law, which Congress apparently no longer cares about.

IANAL but I love listening to them.

So far the podcast has been a great breakdown of what to expect, and where to focus your attention on upcoming stories where politics intersects with the law. As a layperson, it's empowering to know which stories have real legal substance and which don't, and of course, Liz is covering the stories that matter most.
