  • S1E7 - Special: Nottingham Light Night

    Join Lawrence Robertson for a Kleócast special report...


    In this episode, Lawrence attends Nottingham Light Night, a festival encompassing a trail of incredible light-based art installations across the city, which took place in February this year. Produced in partnership by Nottingham City Council and It’s in Nottingham, the city’s business improvement district, the event drew huge crowds to admire work by a mixture of local, national and international artists, at various locations, from Nottingham Castle to Sneinton Market.


    Lawrence follows the tours of the festival organised by local socially-engaged artist Ameila Daiz, in partnership with My Sight Notts and the Nottingham Deaf Society, which were specifically tailored to cater for members of the public with either sight or hearing impairments, providing a perfect opportunity to explore the relationship between the arts and accessibility.

  • S1E6 - Special: Art Fest Nottingham

    Join Lawrence Robertson for a Kleócast special report as he takes an in-depth look behind the scenes of Art Fest Nottingham, Nottingham’s brand new street art festival, which celebrated its inaugural year in September 2024 with the theme ‘paint is our power’.


    In this episode, Lawrence joins festival director Benjamin Kay to find out more about the art and ideas behind its inception. He interviews the headline artists involved and other talented creatives who brought their own unique contributions to the festival, from insightful lectures and interactive tours to an exciting community mural project and a live, open-air exhibition, all demonstrating how street art of all kinds can have a positive impact on a city and its community.

    In this episode, Lawrence continues his conversation with Martin Rayment.


    Martin, also known by the alias Mr. Ray, is a collage artist, musician, creative entrepreneur and co-founder of The Carousel, Nottingham.

    This time, they discuss the role of chaos in his creative practice, and explore the idea of an artist’s duty to entertain their audience. They reflect upon The Deca-Dance of Mr. Ray exhibition, celebrating Martin’s first ten years as an artist, held at Nottingham’s Surface Gallery, and delve further into his role as a creative entrepreneur, as co-founder and director of The Carousel, a vibrant Nottingham artists’ studios and events space.

    Martin also be shares some of his top tips for other up-and-coming artists.

    In this episode, Lawrence is joined by Martin Rayment (otherwise known by the alias Mr. Ray) a collage artist, musician, creative entrepreneur and co-founder of The Carousel, Nottingham.

    In this first half of a two-part conversation, they discuss Martin’s creative development journey, which began with the surrealist books on his parents’ bookshelf, and his many varied artistic influences, including lost comic books, British folklore and the golden age of Hollywood.

    They also explore his process for creating a new piece of art, and the relationship between his music and collage work.

    In this episode, Lawrence is joined by Evie Osbon, a writer, director and producer of theatre projects seeking to tell stories of misrepresented or underserved communities.


    As the founder of Mind Out Theatre, they have been able to instil a social ethos into the core of their production approach, as demonstrated in productions such as Think, The Ladies' Loo Chronicles and Conversations with Ed, which each seek to spark conversations around societal issues.


    Evie discusses their attraction to theatre as a vehicle for driving social change, and their development journey as a theatre maker through collaborative experimentation. They also share some of their top tips for other up-and-coming theatre makers who might just be starting out.

    In this episode, Lawrence continues his conversation with Amelia Daiz, socially-engaged artist and creative facilitator.

    Amelia is a multidisciplinary creative, who has been involved in numerous varied projects throughout her career so far. She is a regular event-organiser at the Carousel, an artists’ studios and co-working creative space Nottingham, and has recently taken on the role of associate artist at Nottingham Contemporary.


    This time, they discuss the role of creative facilitator, and continue to explore the crucial part the arts can play in supporting mental wellbeing.

    They also cover the realities of life as a freelancer in the contemporary arts and question whether arts education adequately prepares students for creative careers.

    In this episode, Lawrence is joined by Amelia Daiz, an artist and creative facilitator working in Nottingham.


    An active practitioner in socially-engaged art, Amelia has a keen interest in exploring the links between walking, creativity and wellbeing.

    In this first half of a two-part conversation, Amelia discusses her career, from her involvement in local arts organisation City Arts, with its links to the Nottingham Poetry Festival, to the creation of her own enterprise, Meanderers.

    She also discusses the impact of Covid-19 on the growth of walking as a means of expression, and how that fed into her own ideas about walking, art and positive mental health.
