Welcome to Inside the Minds of Authors. Summer is here and we have amazing authors to enjoy the season. This evening, we have the pleasure of having a fabulous author duo, M.M. Downing & Sandra Waugh, with us. We are discussing their great Middle Grade trilogy, The Adventures of the Flash Gang.

Sandra Waugh is the author of Lark Rising and Silver Eve, books 1 & 2 in the Guardians of Tarnec series published by Random House. Prior to taking up the pen, Sandra was an actress, most notably a co-founder and one-time artistic director of Echo Repertory, a not-for-profit women’s theater company based in New York City. She holds a B.A. in English from Bryn Mawr College, a black belt in Nia and 500-hour yoga teacher certification, the latter two she sometimes teaches when not writing. Sandra lives in rural Connecticut with her husband.

Melanie Murray Downing, writing as M.M. Downing, is a freelance editor and author who has been previously published at Harlequin and HarperTeen (under the pseudonym Claire Ray.) She has a B.F.A. from New York University and worked for six years at Warner Books and Grand Central Publishing. She lives in New Jersey.

Welcome to Inside the Minds of Authors. Today is a monumental day for us. We are celebrating our 200th episode! Why I didn’t mention it in the show is beyond me. I’m so proud of the work we have done over the last few years and all the amazing authors that have joined us.

Today's episode is a very moving and emotional one. The talented and prolific Randi-Lee Bowslaugh joins us. In her latest book, Good-Bye Too Soon, Ms. Randi-Lee shares her journey of healing as she dealt with the death of her brother. This book is aimed for all the families who are dealing with love ones struggling with addiction.

Ms. Randi is a mental health advocate, author, and YouTuber. She started writing at 14 years old as a coping strategy for her depression. David A. Bowles is an International Award-Winning author who has published five novels in the series known as the Westward Sagas®. The stories are based on his great-grandmother’s family, and their journey from Chester County, Pennsylvania to Texas. The author is the fifth generation of his family to be born in Austin, Texas. His stories are based on years of historical research.

A prolific writer, Mr. David has written hundreds of stories about history, true-life characters, and ones he created. The fifth book in the series, The Sheriff of Starr County, was released February 7, 2023. Gary D. Wilson is also the author of the novels Sing, Ronnie Blue and Getting Right. Although his short fiction has appeared in numerous national literary magazines, For Those Who Favor Fire is his first published collection of stories. He has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and named a finalist for the Iowa Short Fiction Award and the Drue Heinz Literary Prize. Gary has taught fiction writing at Johns Hopkins University and the University of Chicago Graham School. He currently lives in Chicago. Diego Báez is a writer, educator, and abolitionist. He is the recipient of fellowships from CantoMundo, the Surge Institute, and the Poetry Foundation’s Incubator for Community-Engaged Poets. His writing has appeared in Freeman’s, The Rumpus, Harriet Books, and The Georgia Review. He lives in Chicago and teaches at the City Colleges.
