  • In the Dark, hosted by Madeleine Baran, is an award-winning investigative-journalism podcast that started in 2016. Its first season looked at the mysterious abduction of Jacob Wetterling in rural Minnesota and the lack of accountability that sheriffs face when they fail to solve cases. Season 2 examined the case of Curtis Flowers, who was tried six times for the same crime. In 2020, In the Dark released a special report on the coronavirus pandemic in the Mississippi Delta. In 2023, In the Dark joined The New Yorker and Condé Nast. “The Runaway Princesses,” In the Dark’s first collaboration with a New Yorker staff writer, is a four-part series that asks why the women in Dubai’s royal family keep trying to run away. Season 3 of In the Dark is currently in production.

    In the Dark is a two-time Peabody Award winner and, in 2019, became the first podcast to win a George Polk Award, one of the top honors in investigative journalism. The program has also received an Edward R. Murrow Award and a Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award.

no compassion

I have zero compassion or empathy for sex offenders and have no desire to humanize them. Marcos may have only tried to meet up with the teenagers but the intention of having sex with a minor was there. Who knows how many more teenage girls he would have manipulated and lured into having sex. As a veteran myself I'm disappointed and think he's a disgrace to the uniform.

As for the kids that have been labeled sex offenders for experimenting, we'll that's a different story. They should never have been labeled sex offenders.

How is this POSSIBLE???

I graduated highschool in '97, so was still young when this whole thing started. I know I've heard of Curtis Flowers, but had NO IDEA it was THIS BAD!! I'm resisting finding out what has happened, so I'm learning this all for the first time. I CANNOT believe this happened...

Very Captivating

I enjoyed this podcast very much. I liked how it was narrated. It was edited very well with a very seamless transition from each episode. It was very sad at times but I found it very fascinating to know this kind of stuff happens. Over all excellent!

Investigative Reporting Lives!

Remarkable stories, particularly the coverage of Curtis Flowers. American continues to need this kind of investigative reporting and someone to hold the justice system accountable. Coverage and storytelling are great. Can't wait for more.
