The Murdaugh family was one of South Carolina's most powerful legal families. Three generations of Murdaughs held the position of solicitor in the lowcountry for almost one hundred years. In February of 2019 a boat crash killed 19 year old Mallory Beach. Paul Murdaugh, the son of prominent SC attorney, Alex Murdaugh, was charged with three felony counts of boating under the influence, including causing the death of Mallory Beach. June 7, 2021 Alex Murdaugh found his wife, Maggie, and son, Paul, brutally murdered, shot to death on their property known as Moselle. On March 2, 2023 Alex was convicted of murdering Maggie and Paul. Between the murders and the convictions many other crimes came to light. No one could have expected the twists and turns the story has taken and it is not finished. Seton Tucker and Matt Harris started the Impact of Influence podcast soon after the murders of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh. You may have seen them talking about the Murdaugh saga on CourtTV, Murdaugh documentaries on Oxygen and Fox Nation and episodes on American Greed and Nancy Grace. Seton and Matt continue updating the Murdaugh story and are now covering other crimes that have occurred throughout the Southeast. • Alex Murdaugh Fights Back: Refuting Evidence And Alleging Tampering
    Sep 18 2025
Alex Murdaugh’s defense team has filed a 79-page response challenging prosecutors’ efforts to block his request for a new murder trial. His lawyers argue that the state’s opposition is flawed and maintain that Murdaugh was denied a fair trial due to alleged jury tampering by Colleton County Clerk Becky Hill. Although Retired Chief Justice Jean Toal denied a retrial—despite finding Hill not credible—Murdaugh’s attorneys insist that key evidence was ignored, forensic findings were misrepresented, and irrelevant financial evidence was used to distract from the lack of proof tying Murdaugh to the murders of his wife and son. In this episode we discuss the defense team's strategy and the possibility of Murdaugh getting a new trial with attorney Matt Siembieda. Matt Siembieda is an attorney and law professor at Temple Law School. Seton Tucker and Matt Harris began the Impact of Influence podcast shortly after the murders of Maggie and Paul Murdaugh. This is an extremely interesting podcast. I love the discussion and the experts who come on.

Excellent

If you’d rather hear canned presentations from the traveling band of pundits who chase the latest headline, this is not for you. But, if you want fresh information from people who know the facts, the history, the ramifications of in-court and out of court decisions and the reverberation in the lives of the people left to put their lives together after the case is decided and the famous people have flown off to find the next courthouse lawn, this podcast is for you.

For People Who Prefer Their Facts from First Hand Sources

This is one of the most bizarre stories I've ever listened to. I love it!

What in the world??

I really am enjoying this podcast. Every time I listen, it gets better. They interview experts in various fields: from a local historian to a legal analyst, an expert on FOIA, and a local reporter who was first on the scene of the murders. It's educational and informative, and, most importantly, factual. I enjoy the conversational format as well; makes for easy listening, like being a guest at a dinner party with well-informed guests discussing the local Murdaugh saga.

Just Keeps Getting Better

No depth or analysis of the issues in this case. Occasionally a guest will offer good insight. Hosts not so much. Compared to other Murdaugh Murder podcast this is very lacking. Still listen to see if I’ve missed any news but don’t enjoy as much.

No Depth

Enjoyed your balanced coverage and discussions. Had to delete another podcast that was horribly skewed and cringy. Thank you!

Balanced!

but this one is a step above because it seems more objective than some of the others. No doubt that might irritate some, but for those of us who appreciate fact sharing and not dramatization, this is a great listen.

I've listened to other Murdaugh Podcasts
