At MSU, Greek life has had a long-lasting impact on campus society and the connections that students make. However, not every student feels drawn to traditional chapters or sees their goals reflected in these organizations. This has led to the growth of a different type of Greek involvement on campus: professional fraternities and sororities.

On Sunday of MSU Welcome Week, Lonnie Smith attempted to break up an altercation between his friend and East Lansing resident, Mason Woods, and several other young men outside of Dave’s Hot Chicken. After the police were called, Officer Anthony Lyon deployed pepper spray within inches of their faces. Both men were arrested that night.

A group of 12 Spartans returned to Michigan State University's campus for a two-day reunion on September 30 and October 1, marking their 58th anniversary as Holden Hall's second-floor first residents. These Spartans have stayed in touch since 1967, despite dispersing around the country to pursue their careers.
