How Is Whiteness Actually Defined?

Have you ever stopped and asked yourself, what exactly is a white person? Better yet, have you posed the question to anyone else?

And, if we're talking just about skin color, why aren't those of Asian and Middle-Eastern descent considered white? What was the whole purpose of why the European began categorizing humans based on this concept of race, and why does the whole world play along with such a ridiculous concept?
