We call this 2nd brain in our gut the enteric nervous system. Your gut influences your stress levels, anxiety, mood, and behavior. And your brain influences your gut motility, enzyme secretion in your GI tract, absorption of nutrients through your gut lining, and your microbial balance. The two organs are in constant bidirectional contact, each one profoundly influencing the function of the other.
