  • Rhetoric and Information Warfare
    Jun 14 2024

Today, legacy media outlets and traditional authoritative sources are no longer the exclusive gatekeepers and curators of information narratives, a reality that stems from a trend Gartner refers to as the “Decline of the Authoritative Narrative.” Furthermore, the rise of digital technologies and new media platforms has enabled everyone to create, editorialize, and instantaneously distribute “news” along with often contradicting or misleading reports from states, organizations, and businesses. This information warfare contributes to the decline of authoritative narratives and public trust in traditional information sources.

In this episode of the Gartner Futures Lab podcast, host Marty Resnick sits down with Bill Hart-Davidson and Jim Ridolfo, both of whom edited the book “Rhet Ops,” and Gartner Senior Principal of Research Benjamin Arnberg to discuss the current and future states of information warfare and what it could mean to enterprises, industries and the world overall.

Benjamin Arnberg is a senior principal of research for enterprise architecture and technology innovation and joined Gartner after spending three years as faculty in Auburn University’s College of Education. There he taught graduate-level courses in higher education administration, educational research methods and social foundations of education. His publications focused on inclusion policy and practice, qualitative research methodology and critical theory. Prior to serving as faculty, Benjamin worked in Auburn’s Division of Student Affairs as an advisor to media and communications.

  • Early Signals of the ‘Next Big Thing’
    May 9 2024

Tracking early signals is a vital component of trendspotting. It enables businesses to stay ahead of the curve, adapt to changes and make informed decisions. While it involves navigating through a vast amount of information and requires a keen eye for detail, the insights gained from early signal tracking are invaluable for shaping future strategies and becoming future-fit.

In this episode of the Gartner Futures Lab Podcast, host Marty Resnick sits down with Gartner Director of Research Hertha Meyer and Senior Market Research Specialist Akshat Tyagi to discuss how a defining factor of business success and longevity will include the ability to spot and interpret early signals as we move forward in an ever-evolving, disruptive world.

Hertha Meyer is a Director of Research in Gartner’s Consumers and Culture group. Hertha’s focus areas include consumer economic attitudes and behavior, corporate and marketing communications, reputation and brand health. She also serves as a member of Tapestry, Gartner’s trend identification group. Before Gartner, Hertha spent almost 30 years in the public relations industry, providing research and strategic insights on a myriad of topics and communications disciplines to some of the world’s largest corporations, nonprofits and brands.

Akshat Tyagi is a Gartner senior market research specialist. Akshat specializes in navigating the intricate landscape of emerging technologies, trend forecasting, and industry disruptions. He has also been a member and a contributor to some of the ongoing Gartner’s trend identification projects, such as Tapestry and an upcoming Future of Space Industrialization project. • The Role of a Futurist
    Apr 12 2024

The role of the futurist is to be more intentional about not only how to think about the future, but also how to connect and plan for the various trends, forces, and disruptions that will impact the strategic planning for any organization. In a sense, a futurist is a key player on the team that will lead an organization to become future-fit.

In this episode of the Gartner Futures Lab Podcast, host Marty Resnick sits down with professional futurist and author Roger Spitz to take a deep-dive look at both the role and goals of a futurist. A successful futurist informs organizational decision-making every day as they connect the dots of what is happening today and how that may impact the future.

Roger Spitz is president of Techistential, founder of Disruptive Futures Institute in San Francisco, California, and a partner of Vektor Partners, a VC fund investing in the future of mobility. A leading expert and investor in artificial intelligence, Roger is known for coining the term “techistentialism,” and publishes extensively on the future of strategic decision-making and AI. Roger is the bestselling author of the four-volume collection “The Definitive Guide to Thriving on Disruption;” his fifth book, “Disrupt With Impact: Achieve Business Success in an Unpredictable World” will be released in September 2024.
