We discussed Drew’s journey with type 1 diabetes and how various dietary frameworks – paleo, keto, and low-fat, plant-based diets – have affected his blood sugar, insulin requirements, and overall well-being. Among many other things, we discussed why sugar shouldn’t be blamed for type 2 diabetes, myths and misconceptions about the keto diet, and the importance of keeping healthy carbohydrates like unrefined grains and legumes in the diet. This episode is for absolutely everyone, not just folks with diabetes. Drew is a wealth of knowledge and, through his regular blood-glucose monitoring, has so much objective insight into how food affects our bodies at the cellular level each and every day. Shocking, compelling episode to shake us awake from our diet stupor

As usual another stunning episode but this one particularly spoke to me bc it made me question my entire diet: I lost 60lb in 3 months & down to about 12% body fat when I tried (& have maintained) my first diet last year, a healthy whole food keto, mostly vegg (low carb bc i don’t count fiber) but definitely high fat, mostly bc of avocados, EVOO, pecans & pasture raised eggs, but could it be that I’m simply masking insulin resistance bc I’m not consuming insulinogenic foods as proposed by this interview in spite of being certain I’m eating extremely healthy? Since discovering Simon recently, I’ve certainly become even more plant based, trying seitan, tempeh & tofu for plant proteins to attempt to crowd out the fats and continue MPS. Now after this video I believe more than ever I can (& should) reduce my fats even more and start upping my plant carbs like whole grains etc, more Mediterranean-ish, even tho I feel & look the best I ever have in my life now at 40, I think I can do better! Thanks Simon for more inspirational science based proof, you are saving lives!
