Friday Family Film Night: RIKI-OH: THE STORY OF RICKY review

In which the Mister joins me in reviewing RIKI-OH: THE STORY OF RICKY (1991), from the manga by Masahiko Takajo and Tetsuya Saruwatari, and a screenplay by writers Ngai Choi Lam and Tetsuya Saruwatari, the film is directed by Ngai Choi Lam. In a dystopian 2001 where the prison system has been privatized for profit, a young man named Ricky is sentenced to ten years for avenging the tragic death of his girlfriend. Gifted with superhuman strength and mystical martial arts skills, Ricky refuses to submit to the brutal hierarchy of the facility, which is ruled by a corrupt warden and a group of sadistic inmate leaders known as the "Gang of Four." As he witnesses the horrific abuse of his fellow prisoners, Ricky begins a one-man war against the establishment, using his incredible power to dismantle the oppressive regime through a series of increasingly over-the-top and legendary confrontations.
