  • 260. Money Mistakes That Cost Me Everything (And How To Avoid Them) with Nicole Lapin
    Nov 4 2025
We all make financial mistakes, but what happens when those mistakes literally cost you everything? In this episode, I sit down with money expert, author, and host Nicole Lapin, who shares her deeply personal story of losing her home and studio in the LA fires just two weeks after giving birth—and the painful lessons she learned in the aftermath. From skipping business insurance to the emotional toll of rebuilding from scratch, Nicole gets brutally honest about the financial oversights that even experts can make, and how you can protect yourself before disaster strikes. We also talk about the realities of new motherhood, navigating shame, estate planning, and why money isn’t just about numbers—it’s about safety, security, and learning how to trust yourself again. Loved it. The homework helped me clarify some priorities. Loved that racism and privilege was discussed more than just a passing remark.

Love this podcast! Im a recently Accounting Grad & I’m currently a bookkeeper @ a cpa firm & always struggle with feeling like I don’t know enough even though I realize I am privileged to know what I do. I came across the audiobook Financial Feminist on my library app in January and it was insta love. I immediately ordered the physical copy and hunted down the podcast. I am still catching up on back episodes, but am learning so much and every episode brings a new inspiration of some sort. I am already a homeowner, but still found the home buying episode entertaining and informative.

Kind of Obsessed

I follow Tori’s podcast and finally decided to read the book. A lot is covered in the podcast but the book altogether is very insightful. Definitely changed the way I view money. And having an interactive portion was helpful for me. Definitely recommend for anyone who has money goals they want to reach. Will be reading it again!
