Episode 7

I always enjoy hearing about different people's guilty pleasures because everyone's are so very different. This was a fun listen.

I enjoy this series!

The primary topic of discussion by Audible editors in this session is guilty pleasures. I'm a 75 year old married man with three adult children and six grandchildren. My fiction genre of choice is mysteries and thrillers especially the subgenres of espionage, police procedural, modern detective, and legal thrillers and my non-fiction genre of choice are politics/political philosophy, science, and historical biographies. My guilty pleasures are children's books especially anything by Roald Dahl and Maryrose Wood, YA/teen fiction from a wide range of authors, and humorous/fun fiction such as Colleen Helme's Shelby Nichols series and Jana DeLeon's Miss Fortune series.

Two Steps Forward...

Story: 2-Stars
************

...and one step back. After a decent run of ever-improving content and performance, that is how I would describe this episode.

There is far too little time spent discussing the subject of the program. There are a few admirable attempts to bring things back to the topic at hand (it seems the hosts themselves recognize the issue), though these result in marginal success at best.

Performance: 2-Stars
*******************

There is a distinct lack of focus and cohesiveness on the part of the hosts, leading to (at times) a meandering, directionless feel. While the content is always informative, in the case of this episode much of it feels poorly placed (in another episode, perhaps?). A developing sense of pacing and the timing of appropriate impromptu moments, developing nicely over the last 5 episodes, regresses a bit here.

The hosts remain their charming, expert selves. The blend of personalities and backgrounds certainly works in a 'sum is greater than its parts' kind of way.
