In this episode, Dr. Jim Van Allan explores the five essential conversations that every school leader must intentionally create to strengthen relationships, reinforce expectations, and cultivate a positive school culture.

  • EP 44: It's Energy Bus Day at Rocky Mount Elementary! When Vision, Energy, and Teamwork Come to Life
    Mar 9 2026

All aboard The Energy Bus at Rocky Mount Elementary in Virginia!

In this exciting episode, we take you inside an unforgettable Energy Bus Day where students, staff, and families came together to celebrate positivity, teamwork, and school spirit. Rocky Mount Elementary dedicated an entire day to bringing The Energy Bus principles to life in every corner of their campus. From intentional classroom activities to team building stations to a high energy schoolwide assembly, the entire school community was engaged in living out the principles together.

I was truly honored to be invited to be part of this powerful day. What stood out most was the thoughtful planning, the enthusiastic staff leadership, and the incredible family involvement. The school invited all families to attend an evening celebration, and more than 130 of their 250 students returned with their families to continue the momentum. That level of engagement speaks volumes about the culture they are building.

In this episode, you will learn:

    • How Rocky Mount structured their full Energy Bus Day from start to finish
    • What the classroom lessons and interactive stations looked like
    • How teachers and staff were energized and empowered throughout the experience
    • How the school organized a high impact schoolwide assembly
    • Strategies they used to increase family participation and community connection
    • Practical steps to replicate an Energy Bus Day on your own campus
    • The leadership decisions that transformed the day into a culture defining moment

Energy Bus Day was more than a one time event. It was a clear demonstration of what is possible when a school unites around a shared vision of positivity. The engagement was authentic, the spirit was contagious, and the culture impact was real.
