    ON-THE-JOB TRAINING

This episode brings to you insights as well as a set of awareness inputs on On-Job Training.

On-the-job training is one of the cardinal principles of total quality management.

However, quality Gurus, Deming, Juran, Crosby, Ishikawa, and Mukhopadhyay didn’t mean any training.

Only well-designed, tailor-made, outcome-based training of teachers and academic leaders - catalyses quality management.

ETMA follows these fundamental principles in its staff empowerment programmes. ETMA’s staff development programmes are outcome-based based on scientific instructional design and implemented through blended learning.

Learning outcomes are measurable, often yielding more than the target outcomes.

ETMA pioneered blended learning in India as a thought leader in education in 2009.

The end product of every training programme is a blended learning design on one of the selected themes or chapters of the school textbook by every participant.

As a follow-up, it helped schools implement blended learning in action research mode on a trial basis and was duly evaluated.

Students’ excitement, engagement, improved learning outcomes, and teachers’ satisfaction and pride for innovation helped schools adopt blended learning as the pedagogical policy.

All teachers and supervisors were trained in blended learning. ETMA experts followed up with handholding. All classes, all subjects, blended learning all the way.

Eventually, it led to the Whole School Development Programme (WSDP), where ETMA experts engaged with the school for the full academic calendar year.

In its teacher empowerment model of On-the-Job-Training, ETMA experts mentored teams of teachers to develop training material collectively - based on research and collaborative learning on - Self-regulated learning, Growth Mindset, Differentiated Instruction, Technology-integrated learning, action research, etc.

The teams of teachers conducted staff orientation and training through a peer-group training model, mentored and supervised by ETMA experts.

ETMA’s Researcher-Practitioner Collaborative Model of On Job Training is unique.

ETMA experts prepared training material based on an extensive and in-depth review of research. Academic leaders and teachers conducted training sessions utilising the research-based training material in the mentorship of researcher-training experts.

ETMA’s on-the-job training programmes on Brain Rewiring, Communication, Graphic Design, Teacher Effectiveness, Digital Learning for Teachers, School Effectiveness, Academic Leadership, etc., are all practice-based and supported by survey-feedback, case analysis, rapid appraisal, focus group discussion, and such other techniques.

Research-based innovation for quality improvement in education at all levels

    Hello friends

Welcome to the next podcast from Educational Technology and Management Academy which is a leading Indian research and development institution in education.

Today we will speak on research-based innovation for quality improvement in education at all levels.

As academics and professional teachers, we know firsthand the importance of continuous learning and improvement in the field of education. One way to drive progress and enhance the quality of education is through research-based innovation.

But what exactly do we mean by research-based innovation? Simply put, it's the use of research findings to inform and drive innovation in educational practices and policies. This can involve conducting original research to address a specific problem or need, or it can involve adapting and applying existing research to a new context. It is pertinent to mention here that the National council of educational research and training (NCERT) changed the learning material of books based on research in the area of learning theories.

Research-based innovation has the potential to lead to significant improvements in student outcomes, as well as teacher effectiveness and efficiency. It also helps to ensure that our educational practices are grounded in evidence, rather than relying on assumptions or tradition. As an exemplar, there is lot of research on blended learning which proves blended learning is more engaging and exciting for students; they perform better, and teachers are satisfied and happy with the experience and learning outcomes. The questions in the question papers have become very specific in the Board examinations due to research findings in the area.

So how can we promote and facilitate research-based innovation in education? One way is by encouraging and supporting educators to engage in research themselves. This can involve providing opportunities for professional development and funding for research projects. I would like to mention here that the Centre of Advanced Studies in Education (CASE) Baroda, carried out a programme “What Research Says to Class Teachers” with the objective to translate research findings for the use of class teachers.

We can also promote the use of research findings by making them more widely available and accessible. This might involve disseminating research through conferences and journals, or creating online resources and tools to help educators access and utilize research. The present stress on Blended Learning and Flipped Learning as recommended in National Education Policy is the outcome of research in the area of Bloom Taxonomy and Learning Outcomes.

Remember that, ETMA publishes an international open-access peer-reviewed Journal about which we spoke in our previous episode.

Further, we can work to create a culture of continuous learning and improvement within our educational institutions. This means valuing and prioritizing research and evidence-based practices and being open to trying new approaches and methods.

In summary, research-based innovation is a powerful tool for driving quality improvement in education at all levels. By encouraging and supporting educators to engage in research, making research findings widely available, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement, we can work towards a more evidence-based and effective educational system for all.

Thanks for listening to the podcast on research-based innovation for quality improvement in education. We hope you have found this podcast useful and inspiring.

Stay tuned for our next episode.
