Banks, FinTechs and their customers face a barrage of advice on how to spot and avoid fraudulent IDs. Unfortunately, many of the tips on offer simply create a false sense of security! Among the myths being perpetuated include:

• Deepfakes may be spotted via inconsistent reflections and jerky movements
• Security features such as holograms and microprints are proof of an ID document’s authenticity
• Sanctions checks prevent money laundering
