Lerch's writing motivates readers to face life's challenges with boldness and decisiveness. As a mother of four(4) and a member of a committee that runs a women's refuge center in Australia, Sylvia has her own life-experience to match the stories of her ancestors that she tells in her novel.
Sharing her experience with host Omobola Stephen, Sylvia explored the physical and social challenges of a world without modern day conveniences and institutions. She points to how the problems that people at that time faced still affect communities today.
