THAT BEAST WAS NOT ME documents five decades of conversations with murderers like John Wayne Gacy, Charles Manson, Ted Bundy, serial sniper Thomas Lee Dillon, and Donald Harvey-then thought to be the most prolific serial killer in American history. Through letters, prison visits, and interviews, Smalldon gives readers a terrifying look into the darkest recesses of the human psyche.

  • Lucille Butterworth | A Missed Confession
    Jan 21 2026

Lucille Butterworth went missing in Tasmania in 1969, and Australians were shocked to learn decades later that someone confessed to her murder just 7 years after her disappearance. Confirmation bias, tunnel vision, and poor police procedures so damaged this case that even a confession was not enough to close it.

    This case is *unsolved*

If you know anything about the disappearance of Lucille Butterworth, you can contact the Tasmania Police at 131 444 or Crime Stoppers at 1 800 333 000.

my dad knew the guy who did it, he remembers everyone who met him strongly disliked him and my dad was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt. then we all found out. CREEPY.

I love this podcast, it is very well put together and thought out. I would like to relay some information to the host though on reactive abuse... which is something I have lived through. My abuser, knowing I have PTSD and have certain things that have been shared with them through the course of couple therapy actually used these things against me to elicit responses. The same can be done with anyone, especially given that the person who knows best how to pull those responses from you is often the person closest to you that you trusted with that. thankfully I got out of my abusive situation without becoming a topic of one of your episodes but he is still stalking me so who knows... stay safe and informed

love this podcast

The content is always interesting and presented in an accurate and respectful manner. The host is likable and easy to listen to and follow along with. I admittedly get a little annoyed with being preached at about the same social issues that are out of my control but honestly that’s my one and only complaint.

One of my favorites
