As the start of Bryan Kohberger's trial looms, his defense team is throwing everything possible at the prosecution, filing motion after motion aiming to take the death penalty off the table. Now, sources allege pleading not guilty is mom Maryann Kohberger's idea. Apparently she thinks he should fight the charges, which could, if he's convicted, push him into a course to face capital punishment.

Also happening in court, an Idaho judge has denied Kohberger's request to bring in defense experts to offer testimony against the prosecution's theories about his movements and his Amazon shopping history. Prosecutors say evidence shows Kohberger purchases a knife and knife sheath online in the months before the killings and court filings say he also seeks a ‘replacement’ knife after the Idaho murders.

Jaclyn Diiorio, 26, a hairstylist and her cop boyfriend break up after dating for nearly a year. The relationship is contentious with competing protective orders being filed. Diiorio started trying to date again and turns to Tinder. During their conversations, Diiorio mentions she wants her ex dead, asking if her new Tinder friend could make that happen noting that her ex is a Philadelphia cop. The date, is an informant for police and he reaches out to county prosecutors. Detectives call Philadelphia police to make them and the target aware. Officers interview the Philly cop, who says he and Diiorio first met when she cut his hair.

Ellen Greenberg is found by her live-in fiancé, Sam Goldberg, dead inside their apartment. Ellen has been stabbed more than 20 times in her back, neck and torso. Her death is first ruled a homicide, but after a closed-door meeting, the ruling is changed to suicide. For more than 14 years, Ellen's parents Josh and Sandee Greenberg have fought to have that ruling changed.

Now, after settling two lawsuits, the Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Office will reopen the investigation. The settlement agreement comes as a former pathologist submits a sworn statement saying he is wrong to change his former ruling on Greenberg’s death from homicide to suicide.

The Greenberg's do not believe Ellen commits' suicide and neither does Nancy Grace. Her book, What Happened to Ellen? An American Miscarriage of Justice is out today.

Layla Santanello, a young Tennessee mother is last seen June 27th, 2023, in a field next to Americourt Hotel. . Employees and other guests report Layla was acting erratic and seemed paranoid. Layla is caught on CCTV canvassing the hotel, reportedly knocking on doors looking for someone.

The troubling saga began June 24 - three days before Layla was last seen. Jennifer Santanello, Layla's mom, gets a message from Layla's boyfriend via Layla's Facebook account, asking if she was in jail or in the hospital because he has not seen Layla in more than 24 hours. Later the same night, Layla messaged her mom from the same account. "I'm fine mom," she said, following up with, "I been with a friend. I don't have a phone to text or call. I'm using someone els's [sic]."

Roughly two weeks later, a series of strange CASHAPP requests from Layla's account is sent to both Layla's stepmom Brittany Zeitler, and Layla's mom asking for money. In the subject line of one request seeking $100, the letters "twlmg" appeared on the screen. Several requests were made with the same subject line over several minutes, and so Jennifer, Layla's mom, sent her daughter's account $1, asking if she was okay. As back-and-forth transactions ensue, Jennifer believes the acronym "twlmg" in first request meant "they won't let me go."

Another message allegedly says, "We have Layla. She owes a drug debt, and if she doesn’t pay, you’ll find her chopped up into pieces."
