  • Perfection is a Trap: Save Time and Energy with These Simple Shortcuts | Clutterbug Podcast # 302
    Dec 1 2025

Perfectionism is a trap, and today we’re talking about how letting go of it can transform your productivity, time management, and overall happiness. Why? Because embracing 'average'—yes, average—is actually the secret to freeing up your time, energy, and mental bandwidth for the things that really matter. I know, I know, the word 'average' doesn’t sound appealing. Nobody wants to feel mediocre, right? But here’s the truth—most of us waste so much energy trying to be ‘perfect’ at things that don’t actually move the needle forward in life. And when we focus on perfection, we burn ourselves out and have nothing left for the stuff that truly makes life extraordinary. In this episode, I’ll share why embracing 'good enough' in the areas that don’t matter—like household chores, decluttering, or even certain work tasks—can give you more time to focus on what does matter. I’ll also explain how taking shortcuts, like my ‘Do It Shitty’ method, can actually lead to more success, not less. Whether it’s cleaning your house, improving your career, or strengthening your relationships, I’ll show you where you can cut corners, save time, and still get things done without the stress of perfectionism holding you back.

Cass’s Clutterbug podcast is one of my “go to” podcasts as I work on decluttering, housework, and when I need some motivation, encouragement, or just want to learn something to grow as a person. I discovered her first on YouTube several years ago (or maybe my mom shared one of the episodes with me about the different organization styles) and then later found her podcast. I have learned so much. And shared what I’ve learned with friends. :)
One friend and I will share things that happen and be like “Cass said—” or “this reminds me of when Cass—” The other day I found a “dinosaur” (iykyk) and shared a pic with my friend to share a laugh before throwing it away. Thank you, Cass!!!

This is one of my recharge methods too. I love the very word pudder. Yesterday was a day just as she describes, slow and steady. I spent the day drifting from one little easy short task to the next, no pressure. I also like listening to podcasts or movies and stopping for a sip or two of coffee as I pudder.

I’ve listened to this episode probably 10 times because it really helps to identify how clutter is holding you back psychologically.
