  • The Merry Devil of Edmonton by William Shakespeare ~ Full Audiobook
    Apr 29 2025
The Merry Devil of Edmonton by William Shakespeare audiobook. Picture yourself transported to early 17th‑century London as you press “play” and the first strains of an old lute tune give way to a burst of rollicking dialogue: this is The Merry Devil of Edmonton, a razor‑sharp comedy of cons, disguises and devilish hilarity that will sweep you off your feet. At its heart is a swaggering rogue known only as the “Merry Devil,” whose flair for sleight of hand and outrageous impudence sets every scene crackling with mischief. He duels with a foppish knight who thinks chivalry is just gilded hypocrisy, outwits a bumbling magistrate desperate to prove his power, and twists every scheme into a carnival of mistaken identities and gleeful reversals. Meanwhile, love‑struck fools chase dreams of elopement, servants hatch plots against their masters, and the air buzzes with bawdy puns that only Shakespeare’s ear for language could deliver so brilliantly. In the rich timbre of an expert narrator’s voice, each character springs to life—one moment sly and sinister, the next uproariously absurd—while subtle soundscapes and period music evoke smoky taverns, echoing castle halls and moonlit lanes. You’ll feel every whispered secret, every tap of a rapier, and every gasp of astonishment as the Merry Devil’s antics turn conventions upside down and leave you shaking with laughter. If you crave audacious humor, clever wordplay and that unmistakable electricity of Elizabethan theater, this audiobook offers the perfect ticket to an uproarious world where nothing is as it seems—and every twist is delivered with theatrical flair you simply have to hear to believe. • The London Prodigal by William Shakespeare ~ Full Audiobook
    Apr 28 2025
The London Prodigal by William Shakespeare audiobook. Step into the riotous, shadowy streets of Jacobean London with The London Prodigal, a long-lost gem of Shakespearean drama now brought thrillingly to life in audiobook form—where every whispered intrigue, every thunderous accusation, and every heartfelt plea leaps from the page through expert narration and immersive soundscapes. Here you’ll meet young Frank Golding, heir to a fortune that flatters him into folly, squandering his inheritance in a swirl of tavern songs, reckless bets, and the seductive promises of city life—while his patient father, old Golding, and his ever-watchful mother, Mistress Golding, navigate the heartbreaking tension between familial duty and unforgiving pride. What follows is a delicious dance of disguises and deceptions: scheming servants, bold conspirators, repentant prodigals, and a host of colorful citizens collide in a world where honor is currency and redemption costs a steep price. As the narrator’s rich timbre weaves in the play’s stirring verse, you’ll feel the bawdy laughter echo off alley walls, the hush of moral reckonings, and the electric thrill of a society on the brink of transformation. Thousands of Hours of Listening.....or Not

I've now listened to several of these 800+ (and growing) episodes/books, and sampled many more. They are read well, for the most part, and cover a broad range of topics, authors and time periods. There are both fiction and non-fiction, children's, YA and adult titles. I assume all are in the public domain, whether by lapsed or expired copyright. A number of the series' titles are otherwise unavailable for free through Audible, but the edition for sale on Audible will likely be a better reading or translation. I haven't checked, but some of the more obsure titles are likely not available at all. Some have attributions to Librivox, but a variety of sources seem to be drawn from. The biggest drawback, due to the podcast/episode structure of the collection, is that you can't search by title or author, only by upload date. You must load page after page until you find (or don't find) a title or author you're hoping is in the collection. But what do you want for FREE? There are both diamonds and lumps of coal in this mine. You just have to keep digging until you find your diamonds.
