You've probably asked God to be on your side. Joshua did too. It was the wrong question.

In Joshua 5:13–15, Joshua steps out toward the walls of Jericho and comes face to face with a stranger who has a sword already drawn. The question he asks reveals something most of us do without noticing: we approach God expecting Him to get behind our plans and endorse what we've already decided.
