Dr. David Kessler, former FDA Commissioner and author of Diet, Drugs, and Dopamine, joins us to break down the science behind food addiction, obesity, and GLP-1 medications like Ozempic and Zepbound.
He doesn’t just study this—he lives it. Dr. Kessler has obesity, takes GLP-1s, and knows firsthand what it’s like to battle food noise and weight stigma.
In this episode, we discuss:
- What makes ultra-processed food addictive
- How GLP-1s affect the brain and reduce cravings
- Whether some people can stop taking GLP-1s
- His personal experience starting, stopping, and restarting
- Why weight regain happens and what the body is really fighting
- His bold policy ideas to regulate Big Food like Big Tobacco
Dr. Kessler helped bring HIV drugs to market faster, led Operation Warp Speed, and took on the tobacco industry. Now, he’s focused on the next public health crisis: food addiction and obesity.
