She raised $17 million. Built development projects across BC and Ontario. Had 300 investors: people whose families she knew, whose stories she knew. Then the Canadian real estate market shifted. And everything came down with it. Alejandra Moreno is the co-founder of Honeybee Development Group. In under 18 months, she and her partner Mimi Faye built one of BC's most ambitious development companies, subdivisions, townhomes, and student rental towers in Toronto. Then 2023 hit. Capital dried up. Funding confirmed at $6M dropped to $200K at closing. Over 200 developers went bankrupt in BC alone. Ale didn't ghost her investors. She met with them every Thursday for two years. She sold the Porsche, the pool house, the rentals, and the savings. She stripped her family of 25 years of work, trying to hold it together. She asked her husband for a divorce, not because the love was gone, but to protect her kids. The company filed for bankruptcy in June. By September, she was in the hospital, close to septic. Her body was breaking down from two years of unrelenting stress. She came out in October. She's still going.
