Good writers are not necessarily good readers.

The reading suffered words ran together and insufficient diction. Good reading is its own art.

Clever, punchy, classic Swanwick

This is a short, efficient story without a wasted word, unfolding backstory, emotional nuance, twists, and political context in the aftershock of each witticism.

It’s the story of defector/collaborator/race traitors in a Cold War between humanity and AIs, with all the mature mastery of the guy who wrote Vacuum Flowers.
