Great hearing a non-american view point of everything going down, especially of them joining 'america's' wars. Also just learning how their military works and common issues. It is brought up with the gap of combat experience in modern units and the shame in saying you want to go to war. I deployed early in career, but when I got out the unit I was in had gone a decade of nothing (multiple stand down deployments due to Afghan troop pull outs). But as far as the shame goes, the retention nco, E7, asked why I and a squad mate were getting out, I was honest, we weren't deploying, just lost another combat tour, and we joined for combat. I said what was the point of going infantry if we arent fighting our ongoing wars? The retention nco looked at me with disgust and said she was glad I was getting out for saying that because people shouldnt join for combat and those that did were physcopaths... and then I'm watchimg them try hard to keep some non-deployed crippled kid in by offering all kinds of permant profiles and a new cushy mos to keep numbers.
