Hannah Keels, who joined her husband, former Fostoria resident Chuck Keels, in urging cancer patients to "Get Up and Live," lost her battle with the disease Tuesday at age 48.
Chuck's hometown was among their stops as she and her husband traveled throughout the United States to share their story of maintaining an active lifestyle despite both having dealt with stage four cancer diagnoses.
While living in Scottsdale, Arizona, the Keelses founded the Living Hope Cancer Foundation to help coach cancer through their treatment experiences. They knew of which they spoke, with Hannah Keels actively battling metastatic breast cancer and Chuck having experienced a bout with prostate cancer before, he says, Jesus physically touched him.
Hannah's cancer spread to other parts of her body and her brain as her battle continued for about six years. During last spring and summer, she drove a mobile home from San Diego to St. Augustine, Florida, as Chuck completed a "Ride Like a Thriver" bicycle tour to bring attention to their foundation.
