as for your question of intelligence between killing a farm world versus a militarized one. in times of war the most im0ortant thing you have the #1 thing you gotta protect is your supplies and if the tyrannids take all of your food your military is not going to work as wrll if not at all. the hivemind definitely has intelligence but as they say it views itself above us.
