004: The Collapse of the Bronze Age: Part One: Was it the Sea People*

The world of the Bronze Age Greeks ended in catastrophe, but it was so long ago that it is difficult for archeologists to say for certain what happened to bring about the end of civilization. One of the biggest clues that the entire civilization collapsed was the thick layer of ash that existed in every Bronze Age city. Every city burned down around the same time, in 1180 BCE. Once the clay tablets of the ancient city of Ugarit were un-earthed, we finally got an idea of what may have caused the destruction, as they wrote a letter begging for help right before their city was destroyed.

The old paradigm of the Sea People is no longer the main cause of the Bronze Age Collapse but is rather a small piece of a much greater catastrophe.

The History of Modern Greece covers the events of the Greek People from the fall of Constantinople in 1453 to the Greek War of Independence in 1821-1832, all the way through to the Greco-Turkish War from 1919 to 1922.
