A young counselor must figure out why an angry ghost is haunting her summer camp in this “eerie and entertaining” (School Library Journal) middle grade supernatural mystery perfect for fans of The Doomsday Archives and The Girl in White by Lindsay Currie.

Frankie Wilkins waits all year for her favorite thing—summers in coastal Maine. This year, she and her best friend, Parker, are Leaders-in-Training at Camp Asticou on Walker Pond. For Frankie, this summer is not just about proving her skills but convincing her dad and stepmom to stay in the area, rather than spending summers on Long Island.

Their first night at camp, the LITs hear a local legend called The Bride of Rippowam. In the 1600s, a young woman named Eugenie fell in love with a sailor, only for them both to drown in a tragic accident. People say Eugenie has haunted the pond ever since, creating dangerous currents, cold spots, and sudden bursts of wind. It all sounds like a typical campfire story—until Frankie has a few spooky experiences of her own…including seeing an apparition.

When some digging turns up belongings of a woman named Eugenie DeVray, Frankie realizes Eugenie really is haunting the camp—and she’s trying to communicate something important. With Eugenie’s bids for attention posing more and more danger to the campers and the future of camp itself, the only way to fix things is to figure out Eugenie’s unfinished business and help her move on. Frankie recruits Parker and the rest of the LITs to help, but between breaking almost every camp rule and risking their safety, can they solve the mystery of Eugenie’s past before tragedy strikes again?
