• Summary

  • Religious and cult ideologies often use the practice of shunning to silence their critics and to control their members through fear. This podcast sheds light on shunning through real life stories as told by the people that have lived through it. Learn what their lives were like and where they have ended up in life after being shunned. Featuring stories from Jehovah's Witnesses, Scientology, Amish, Mennonite, FLDS, the Moonies, and more, you will learn about the real lives of former members that have been shut out by their former communities. The host is an exJW himself, a professional cult recovery coach, and provides insight into the psychology of coercive control and the impacts on those subjected to it through these high control groups.

  • 186 – I Did Something Good – Megan is shunned by Jehovah’s Witnesses
    Sep 7 2024

After a life growing up in the cult of Jehovah’s Witnesses, where she thought she was going to do something good but only found pain, Megan made changes. Today she may be shunned by a group that holds women down, but she has done something good with her life and wishes to inspire women to see the good that they can do too. Earlier this year she was recognized by Women’s Magazine as one of 70 Women Entrepreneurs of the Year, as her company provides sustainable solutions and furnishings for people in need, turning surplus into support.

  • Episode 185 – It’s Too Bad, So Wrong, So Long – Jason is shunned by Jehovah’s Witnesses
    Aug 23 2024

Jason describes his life like a cult version of the Nickleback song Too Bad and the accompanying video. The house was a bad day away from being condemned. Home was a place where his parents hated each other. His dad had an affair, got disfellowshipped, and took off. Mom was working at a cafe. Jason had to go fend for himself, and eventually his 15 year old brother was shipped off to stay with him. This is Jason’s story of waking up and leaving Jehovah’s Witnesses and changing his life for himself and his own family today.

very relatable for those who've endured shunning

I really find this podcast/ the you tube videos therapeutic. When those closest to you fail you, due to their own misguided and contradicting beliefs..it is painful.
You mourn these people, who have not died physically....yet refuse to see you and love you.
Be encouraged. Some strong language and detailed topics that is not intended for little ones.....but as I stated.....extremely therapeutic.
Shunning sucks but having these podcasts and knowing that others have dealt with the toxic effects of the shunning pattern.... helps me to cope and move past their behaviors.
We are enough and we can get through this!!
