Beautiful story about food and life

Zoey Wonders Why is a delightful story! Children and adults will come together to learn and celebrate food - and find that within the differences there is much in common.

The audiobook was an enjoyable listen. Having read the book and listened to the audiobook, I personally found the book more effective in written form. Both the illustrations and the glossary are important components for fully enjoying the book. Regarding the narration, I think it would have been more empowering for youngsters of different cultural backgrounds to hear words in their native languages pronounced with more correct pronunciation rather than an Anglicized version (e.g. the way daal, gulab jamun and Pakistan were pronounced.) Hearing another child pronounce words correctly would encourage them to do the same in their own lives.

We are all different but we are all awesome!

I liked the story in 4 chapters. The first chapter mom plays a game of hot and cold. Because we are listening to the story you can visualize with Zoey the smells and tastes. Zoey, however is very concerned about where she is from. At school, in Chapter 2, her friends Mica and Sam bring food of their culture and Zoey gets pretty excited. So much so her teacher sends a note home about her getting up out of her seat. In Chapter 3, mom wants Zoey to consider others and stay calm at school. The next day is her turn and mom, her brothers and Zoey make Somasas with Aloo fried. They have a lot of fun, until Zoey pushes her brothers and she feels bad. She needs to think of others. In the last chapter, Zoey proudly tells the class she is from South Asia in India, Pakistan, and from Nigeria. She says we all maybe different but we are all awesome. At home later, she is very happy and they venture again into more cooking together. Zoey is proud of her culture. This is a great story for teachers to play for their class before an assignment such as; what is your culture. I liked the narrator's voices and the author did an excellent job of Zoey's character. Zoey Learns About Cultures and Food

This is a delightful story laced with the aromas and tastes of different cultures. It makes my mouth water as I imagine each dish that Zoey describes. She learns about the various places her parents are from and shares the food with her class, as she talks about the different cultures. She also learns about her classmates' cultures. At the end she invites the listeners to learn about and share their cultures. Kids will love this book!

Beautiful story & narration.

This is a great children's story. Grandkids loved it. It is Very well narrated and held their attention as they learned about children and foods from other cultures. It's a great story for promoting curiosity about and sensitivity to others' ways of life. My grandkids really identified with little Zoey's feelings as they listened.

Excellent Informative Positive Story

The story was an enjoyable descriptive account of the
various cultures and the foods they shared with others;
revealing how similar we are in many ways.
That common ground makes us a true melting pot.
Well done!
