Full of personal stories, whimsical how-tos, recipes, and beautiful handmade collages created by the author herself, You’re on an Airplane is a delight in every way.

In her first audiobook, actress and star of movies such as Dazed and Confused, Party Girl, You’ve Got Mail, The House of Yes, and so many more, Posey opens up about the art of acting, life on the set, and the realities of its accompanying fame.

A funny and colorful southern childhood prepared Posey for a life of creating and entertaining, which not only extends to acting but to the craft of pottery, sewing, collage, yoga and cooking, all of which listeners will find in this whimsical, hilarious, always entertaining audiobook.

Parker takes us into her childhood home, behind the scenes of the indie film revolution in the '90s, the delightful absurdity of the big-budget genre thrillers she’s turned into art in a whole new way, and the creativity that will always be part of both her acting and her personal life.

With Posey’s memorable, hilarious and poignant voice, her audiobook gives the listener a feeling of traveling through not only a memoir, but an exploration, meditation, and celebration of what it means to be an artist. Buckle up and enjoy the journey.

Critic reviews

“Posey has a lot to say in You’re on an Airplane… Her style may seem dotty, but it’s actually searingly direct. She tackles personal challenges that must have been painful…but still manages to find some loopy joy in the experience… She writes, jauntily, about her insecurities - her candor might even make you feel jaunty about your own.” (Time)

"A charming flight of fancy for Parker Posey." (The Columbus Dispatch)

“Excellent...a celebration of peculiarity.” (Vogue)

You don't understand

Its odd to experience the intimate details of Parker's journey...on one hand I feel like I am suddenly her friend...but then I remember that she is recording in a sound studio, or maybe in her living room? I feel like I am stealing her life...except that she probably gets a couple of dollars from Audible...I also purchased the book...so that's a few more bucks. I gave the book to a friend, and although listening to Parker's voice makes the story infinitely more nuanced, especially when she speaks the subtext in a faster cadence...it seems more personal...more of Parker's intention; however, I find myself missing the written word...paper that I can dogear, highlight, underline, or circle...and come back to later. There are so many things that make me laugh out loud...that I would love to quote...but I don't want to interrupt the story...it's almost like Parker is talking...present in my space...but she isn't. I find myself wishing that I knew her...wondering if this is a character? I once met her and actually blathered about how much I loved one if her characters, Jackie O, from the House of Yes...I was delighted when she delivered a few lines...and agreed with me that it was a great movie...but I left her wondering if I had bothered her, wondering how much of Jackie O was Parker, how much of any actor is in any character...am I a fan of Jackie O or a fan of Parker Posey? This story leaves me the same question...the story is relatable...seems deep...seems like it might offer insights into Parker...but does it? Am I a stalker? is that the point...to force me to understand that Parker is a complete human being with her own life to live...and to understand that I have no right to her life? So...ultimately I am enjoying her tale...and appreciate that she offers it in both formats...one that I can physically own...and one that reminds me that it's actually not mine. I am wondering if Parker even conceived that folks hearing or reading this would get so introspective about it?

perfect

I grew up watching Indie movies where Parker offered was. This book and her narrating it is the perfect company on an airplane ride. it's heartfelt and funny and odd a little confusing in some spots. but I think the best stories are. when this story ends if I immediately paused and restarted it again.

Suffering Withdrawal After Finishing

I could go for ten more audio books from Parker Posey, read by Parker Posey. I’ll need to watch every Parker Posey film I’ve missed to fill this post-immersion void. I will miss her company. She always makes my day.

Epitomizes Parker Posey

Fantastic! Listen while you cook & sip wine, organize your bathroom linen closet, drive to work. I did & loved every minute of hearing her life story in her own voice. Greatly admire her inimitable creatively. Smart. Funny. Eccentric. Poignant. Can we be friends. Parker?

A brilliant book beautifully read and produced.

This was a truly engaging, interesting and entertaining read. Thought-provoking and at the same time fun and delicious. I didn't want it to end, and was sad when we "landed".

Parker is your friend

For the next 7+ hours or so you’ll be thoroughly and pleasantly entertained by Ms. Posey, herself. It almost felt like a one person radio play. If you’ve ever been a fan of Parker’s this is must. I will definitely listen to this again. Not only is her story great but her voice is equally matched. She’s soothes the souls. Thank you Parker!!!

Amazing INSIGHT into the real WORLD of ARTIST

I liked it, but not too much for the first two chapters, however it was clear moving forward on I was never going back. I would only find #likeminded #movie #actors #stars #artist speaking the real thing for #SELFHELP
