Publisher's Summary

James Cordier is a master of intrigue, a brilliant thief, a first-class lover, and an intimate friend of danger - all for King and Country - and thoroughly sick of it. He just has to complete one last mission, and then he can retire peacefully, and resume his aristocratic life in Regency London, where his most dangerous task will be courting sweet, respectable heiresses. But first, James must charm a set of incriminating letters from a woman who is anything but quiet or respectable: the notorious Francesca Bonnard.

Francesca Bonnard has overcome heartbreak, scorn, and scandal to become independent, happy, and definitely fallen! She's learned the hard way that "gentlemen" are far more trouble than they're worth, so she can certainly see that her wildly attractive new neighbor is bad news.

But as bad as James is, others - far worse - are also searching for Francesca's letters. And, as James and Francesca are thrust ever closer, suddenly nothing is simple - especially the nearly incendiary chemistry between the two most jaded, sinful souls in Europe. And just as suddenly, risking every danger seems to be worth every reward.

LOVED LOVED LOVED! Do not miss this one!

Francesca and James are PERFECT TOGETHER!!!! Loretta Chase has a knack for creating great characters with even better chemistry! The back and forth banter between these two is AMAZING! The story is interesting, but honestly - the dialogue between Francesca and James is just what makes the book. On top of great main characters - there are a bevy of supporting characters that are an absolute riot at times and just as well written. Loretta Chase is definitely in my top 5 writers and this is in the top 5 of the books she's written.
That being said - I KNOW that the characters of this book could not come alive as they do without Kate Reading! She is the MASTER of making characters interactions and banter come to life! She is the best all around narrator I have listened to..from romance, to Epic Fantasy she makes it all come alive!

WORTH 2 CREDITS in my opinion! Do not miss this one!

"Happy Books!"

I listen to these stories after an especially dark, depressing story. They make me smile, laugh and always have a happy ending! This author is the only one I listen to in this genre and haven't had a bad listen yet! Narrated to perfection...her "he said, she said" always make me smile...try one!

I love romance and but not prostitution I guess

I have read romances for years but never felt dirty. I powered through this because Loretta Chase has a good reputation for writing and especially about this era. Somehow I never did develop sympathy or care for the female lead.

It's so good to be bad

Great characters, great story. Another good read from Loretta Chase. Kate Reading is wonderful, as usual.

Rare Miss for Loretta Chase and Kate Reading

Ugh. This was the first LC + KR book I could not finish. Everything about it is just wrong.

A lot of the characters have thick Italian accents, which become VERY ANNOYING when done by the great Kate Reading. That alone made it hard to listen to.

Otherwise, I found the h one of Loretta Chase's annoying Negative Nancys. I disliked her from the beginning. The H is better, but their interaction I found to be a stale redoing of Captives of the Night, and not nearly as good. There is a glove undoing "seduction' scene I found very Try Hard and too reminiscent of LOS. I didn't find any sexual chemistry.

I would recommend reading Captives of the Night instead, which is one of her best in this style.

How To Turn. Slightly Outré Couple Into Prince Charming and Cinderella

It’s not fair of me but I have high expectations of Loretta Chase, So far she hasn’t disappointed. This story is no exception. It started a little slow but soon was rocking along. There are wonderful support characters and a truly delicious evil villain(ness). All and all, a “Sad Romp”.

Wonderful and witty!

I haven’t had this much fun in....a few good Audibles and Kindles and paperbacks and....well you get my meaning! Love the story full of romance and adventure! Totally into my favorites list and my “must own” paperback collection! Thanks to all involved in the production and of course the author and creator: Ms Chase <3
