Publisher's summary

Music education has been scientifically proven to have cognitive benefits; these benefits include: greater attention span, increased ability in geometrical skills, improved performance in mathematical problem solving and spatial tasks, heightened fluency in reading, and greater short-term and long-term memory. These benefits give music educators a platform from which to advocate for the retention and growth of their programs and to encourage music as a lifelong pursuit.

Well-Put and Easy to Understand

I enjoyed this book. It laid out a clear and concise argument for the importance of music education in the context of its connection with the brain and the brain’s development, as well as after is fully developed. It was well-researched, but was easy to understand despite the numerous scientific studies it referenced. It could easily be used to advocate for music education in schools without much simplification of terms, and I think that people without a music background would be able to glean a lot from it.
