Publisher's summary

"There are really two games, the one you see and the one you don't. The way I see it, the best way to use access to both worlds is to illuminate and reveal, not idolize and adore. It's better to be wrong than to be played for a fool." – Colin Cowherd

In this age of billion dollar athletic marketing campaigns, “feel good” philosophy with no connection to reality, and a Sports Media echo chamber that’s all too eager swallow whatever idiotic notion happens to be in vogue at the moment, it’s tough to find people who aren’t afraid to say what they’re really thinking.

But that’s where Colin Cowherd comes in. As his millions of fans on ESPN Radio and ESPNU already know, Colin is the rare sports analyst who’s brave (or crazy) enough to speak his mind—even if it pisses some people off. Of course, it helps that a lot of what Colin has to say is simply hilarious. Lots of writers can tell you about Boston’s storied sports history. But how many can tell you why the city of Boston is America’s five year old? Lots of writers will brag about the stuff they got right, but how many will happily list all the calls they got completely and utterly wrong? Whether he’s pointing out the stupidity of conspiracy theories, explaining why media bias isn’t nearly as big a deal as many assume, or calling out those who prize short term wins over sustainability, Colin is smart, thought-provoking, and laugh-out-loud funny. Some of the questions he’s not afraid to ask in You Herd Me! include:

  • Is Tiger Woods really a sex addict—or does he just have good PR?
  • Is “work-life balance” really the ideal we should all strive for—or is that just a way for people feel better about mediocrity?
  • Is talent really all it’s cracked up to be—or can too much talent actually be counterproductive?
  • Is the X games really a sport—or would we all be better off if we admitted it’s something else entirely?
  • Is Hell really a supernatural place of fire and brimstone—or is it actually just another word for living in Tampa?

Unapologetically entertaining and packed with behind-the-scenes insights you won’t get anywhere else, You Herd Me! is unlike any other sports book ever written.

Reasonably Entertaining

What did you love best about You Herd Me!?

I did enjoy the many little stories he told.

What other book might you compare You Herd Me! to and why?

It was similar to Matthew Berry's fantasy football book in that both used a variety of short stories.

Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite parts were the discussions on Alex Rodriguez and Basketball.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

You wouldn't make a film of this.

Any additional comments?

I was a little disappointed that he's talked about virtually all of this on his radio show so there was very little in the way of surprises.

Great book, Repeats majority of themes from radio

Would you listen to You Herd Me! again? Why?

No, great book but no need to listen again.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Colin Cowherd

Which scene was your favorite?

N/A

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

N/A

Any additional comments?

I listen to Colin Cowherd's podcast religiously and have gained a ton of insight on life and sports from his perspective. I think he is the most thought provoking personality on radio and made me reanalyze many aspects of my personal and business life. The book is essentially a condensed version of all the themes of his radio show so I would recommend it to anyone who is interesting in American sports or bettering themselves.

Went from hating Colin to understanding him.

He's an edgy dude who sometimes appears to go above and beyond to be contrarian. But after reading the why's behind his what's and the journey he's been on. I commend his takes and the courage of his convictions. It's an entertaining insight to where it all began for Colin in sports interest and journalism along with some interesting characters and good luck along his rise to current fame. There are tons and tons of fantastic life tips and advice that he's gathered over the years from other people.

If you like Herd, you'll enjoy this.

Would you consider the audio edition of You Herd Me! to be better than the print version?

Never read the print. But Colin narrates it, so you get the author's words in the author's voice, which is great. Next question.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Well, um, Cowherd, obviously.

Which character – as performed by Colin Cowherd – was your favorite?

I think Mookie Wilson as performed by Colin Cowherd was my favorite. Mookie or "Passionate Dumb Fan."

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes. But there are bills to pay.

Any additional comments?

Love Colin, just not these types of books

Any additional comments?

Have to say I'm a fan of Colin's so agreeing with his realistic rather than glossed over views of sports (and life) is not an issue. Guess there were just too many subjects that I did not care about so I fast forwarded thru several chapters. The ones I did listen to were classic Colin and very intuitive. Not sure if I can recommend unless you are unfamiliar with his radio show. In that case I think it can open your eyes to another viewpoint from a sports 'insider'.
