Publisher's summary

Jump into Pride with Tan France (Queer Eye), Nikki Levy, and seven fabulous storytellers as they share true tales of exploring, embracing, and celebrating queer identity.

You Do You, produced especially for Pride Month, brings Audible Members a collection of uplifting, raw, and hilarious stories from queer actors, comedians, and personalities. Co-hosted by French-tuck aficionado and super-stylist Tan France and storytelling maven Nikki Levy, You Do You is a fierce, unfiltered celebration of LGBTQIA+ realness.

You’ll hear live stories from RuPaul’s Drag Race fave D.J. “Shangela” Pierce about seeking some Beyoncé healing after a fateful death-drop injury, Janine Brito (stand-up comedian and writer for Netflix’s One Day at a Time) who made a curious calendar purchase as a tween, and Emma Willmann (Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) growing closer to her sister through heteronormative wedding planning.

You Do You also treats listeners to a sometimes-fun, sometimes-trying excursion to Dubai from YouTube star Gigi Gorgeous, a mischievous switcheroo orchestrated by Percy Rustomji, and a touching story about big life decisions from Nikki Levy herself. Closing it out is a deeply personal story that’s still sizzling with laughs from the magnificent Alexandra Billings of Amazon’s hit show Transparent

So, celebrate yourself, don’t let anyone dull your sparkle, and dive in to the fabulous, funny stories in You Do You

True Tales From the Cast

About the Host

Tan France has been a successful fashion designer for more than 15 years, and is best known to audiences worldwide as the fashion expert on the Emmy-winning Netflix reboot, Queer Eye. Amplifying the impact of the original Queer Eye for the Straight Guy series, the groundbreaking reboot unapologetically takes the world by storm and proves that the Queer Eye lens can be introspective, emotional, and most of all—necessary. Prior to Tan’s newfound success in front of the camera, he was the creative mind behind successful brands, including the popular ladies’ clothing lines Kingdom & State and Rachel Parcell, Inc. In 2019, Tan made his mark in the spoken-word format, narrating his memoir, Naturally Tan, and anchoring the Audible Original You Do You. Both audios bring to life experiences that contributed to his success and celebrate his identity…and the unique stories of others. He currently resides in Salt Lake City with his husband, Rob.

About the Host

Nikki Levy is the host and creator of the award-winning comedy event Don't Tell My Mother, a live show and podcast in which celebrities tell true stories they'd NEVER want their moms to hear. Past performers include Tracee Ellis Ross, Kate McKinnon, Lance Bass, and Hasan Minhaj. As an audio creator and producer, she worked with Audible on The Path to Pride with Lance Bass. Nikki also serves as the Head of Scripted Comedy at DreamWorksTV where she makes television for kids and families. A native New Yorker, a Northwestern University alum (Go, Cats!,) and a boba fanatic, Nikki resides in Los Angeles with her wifey, their rescue pit bull, and tuxedo cat. Nikki’s mother knows everything!

It's got Alexandra Billings!

Some hilarious stories in here (the Bey stan!)--even Gigi manages to tell it funny (and fierce) as my stomach was in knots listening to her. But my fave is Alexandra Billings, an unexpected surprise. She's all heart and so inspirational.

Fun, easy listen.

I chose this audible original on a whim and was not disappointed. I enjoyed this listen, and found myself laughing out loud at points, give it a go and see what you think.

So good!

This was really enjoyable and really funny! Happy pride! I’m so glad I got this book. Nikki and Tan were trying a little too hard at times, but the stories were amazing. Really loved it!

Good stories but unnecessarily vulgar.

Mostly anecdotal and humorous stories. The last one is truly the most inspirational and moving.

Overall Exactly What I Needed

I wish there had been content warnings, as a young bisexual trans man entering my 20s I’ve begun looking for happy queer stories, which most of these were. But of course as is the case with every lgbtq+ story there’s hardships. They were funny, had me laughing outloud at work and uplifting in a sad “everyone has gone through hardships and this is what we have learned from them and made them funny for you to be able to more easily digest” sort of way. It’s nice to hear older trans people talk about life and making it and being uplifting. It’s nice to hear gay people talk about living normal lives. Hope I can be one!
