"You can feel it in the silence--when you're loved, when you're home."
Welcome to Magnolia, Louisiana, a small town desperate for a fresh start after tragedy. Newcomer, April has made it her life’s work bringing old, abandoned properties back to beauty. It was a dream first instilled in her by her father after they lost their home in a hurricane. Since then, April has lost much more—both her parents and her hearing. April’s life has been quiet for far too long. The only comfort she finds is in her work. That is until she meets the farmer next door, Emmett Calhoun.
Emmett is driven by two things—responsibility to his family and a desire to never become his father. Reluctant to allow himself a taste of something new, Emmett avoids helping April with the renovation until he simply can’t. When he finally agrees to help, more than the historic inn gets a fresh start.
April hears Emmett, sees him, more than anyone else ever has. Emmett learns and loves April in a way no one else has ever been willing to. Together, they find the silence isn’t so quiet. Together, they tear down the walls guarding their hearts and open their minds to new possibilities for the future—to new dreams, to new love. And the town of Magnolia enters a new chapter of togetherness.
Tropes: deaf/ mute, virgin FMC, protective farmer next door MC, close proximity, slow burn turned spicy, found family, small town, healing love story
TW: attempted SA, death of a parent (referenced), death of a lover (referenced), violence, PTSD, alcoholism (not MCs)
This novel is a complete standalone.

This was a re-read in audiobook format. The narration made me feel like I opened a door and stepped right into the town of Magnolia, Louisiana. Narrated in duet by Elisabeth Knight as April and Finnley Cole as Emmett, their vocal delivery is well paced and overall well-done. They really complemented each other—their voices welcomed me into the world (especially Finnley’s southern accent!) and I didn’t want to leave. 4.5 stars

April’s character had my heart from the beginning she lost her hearing in an accident and that’s always felt alone but the first time her and Emmett interacted he made her feel seen and found ways to communicate with her! Their love was so precious!!
This storyline really kept you indulged I never wanted to put it down! Will definitely be a reread!
The voices match the characters so well and exactly how I was picturing they would sound! And the story itself is just beautiful!! I can’t wait for more from Emily!
Beautifully written and beautifully narrated!

April Scott and Emmett Calhoun's story will have you needing some tissues—not the entire box—but it's best to have it handy just in case. April is in Magnolia Springs, working on an old house to restore it to its former glory, though not everyone is happy about it; heck, some people have forgotten the house is still there. April had done jobs like this with her father, but with his recent passing, she is taking this project on by herself.
Emmet is back in Magnolia Springs, helping his sister and mother out after a series of events had his sister reach out to him, asking him to return home. Emmet had left home several years ago but would do anything to help his sister and mother, so he's back helping tend to the farm when a trip into town changes the course of his life.
Emmet and April's story touches on some sensitive subjects, so I highly recommend reading the last part of the blurb, where the author lists all the CW/TW.
I listened to the audiobook version of this story and have to say that Elisabeth Knight and Finnley Cole did an excellent job of bringing Emmet and April to life.
I recommend this book to readers who enjoy Contemporary Romances with Darker themes, Slow Burn turned Spicy Romances, Small Town Romances, or Found Family Romances.
Happy Reading!!!
