Publisher's summary

When a mysterious text message summons May Wexler to a biker bar in downtown New Orleans, she knows something is very wrong. Her sister has sent out an SOS, but when May gets there, she's nowhere to be found and May is the one in trouble - she's wearing pink espadrilles, she's got a Chihuahua in her purse, and she's in the middle of a shootout.

After tall, muscular Ozzie comes to her rescue, May has no choice but to follow him to safety. At the headquarters of his private security firm, the Bourbon Street Boys, she finds a refuge for the night - and the offer of a job. But it's not long before a gun-toting stalker isn't the only complication in May's life: the more time she spends with Ozzie, the less she can deny that they've got some serious chemistry. A wrong number got her into this mess...Will it also get her the right guy?

Not Exactly What I Expected

The overall story was good, but the main character's inner dialogue was annoying. It overpowered the storyline. I was hoping that it would lessen as the story developed, but May continued to pout and whine throughout the story. I felt the character was suppose to be independent, but the inner dialogue countered of being secure. The narrator worked with the material she was given. I enjoyed the foundation of the story and would listen to another book from the author in hopes that the inner dialogue will be at a minimum if it's a similar style. The love story could have been developed more. It's possible that I would have enjoyed the book better in written form instead of audible so not to hear the inner dialogue.

Funny, light and distracting

This book was perfect for the moment I heard it.
After a few sad, heavy stories this was like a breeze of fresh air...
The first chapters were a little slow with the heroine descriptions but it picked up and became very funny snd entertaining, a little break from the daily reality.
The narrator did a great job. I had the same fun with Rock Chick series from Kate Ashley that I love...
If you like to unwind a little and have fun, this is a good book.
I do not know if I would rate 5 stars any other day but, it was a great book for me today, I did not see the time pass...
Totally recommend for the ones looking for some time out.

Meh...

The storyline was okay. I did not like how the main character May was so immature. Had me cringing a couple times, kind of wanted it to be over about Midway through the book.

Cute story

Cute story but kinda corny when read aloud. I think it would be better if read the old fashioned way.

Good narration, okay story

I think this is my first time reading or listening to a book by this author. The writing is okay but I didn't like the main character that much. I really felt like she was either too stupid to live or beyond naive for someone her age. She almost knew how to take care of herself but her level of maturity and lack of sense which played into very old stereotypes about the heroine constantly making decisions that would get herself killed was a little bit played for this time period. Even though this was released five years ago. Most women, I hope, have more sense than she did.

I didn't hate this book but I did skip through a lot of the character's inner dialogue because she was so annoying to listen to. However, even after all that, upon reading the reviews of the rest of the books in this series, it would seem that the main characters are a little bit more mature. So I will give them a chance. Besides, I already have the rest of the series in my library and have had it for quite some time and just hadn't read them yet. Finally decided to give them a try. So going to listen to the next book now. If I wouldn't have already purchased this book I am not sure I would have gotten it but I think the rest of the series will be well worth the listen.

Awesome!!!

I loved it. There were parts that I was laughing so hard that I had tears. I could picture everything that happened. The author wrote an awesome book. I couldn't stop listening. As soon as this one ended, I bought the next.

Enjoyable story overall

3 stars

This was an enjoyable story overall. May and Ozzie were interesting characters and I liked that them as a couple.

May is a photographer that makes a living doing portraits and wedding photos. May is single and likes it that way as she hasn't had good luck with guys in the past. May's sister lives close and she has 3 kids that May helps out with when it's needed.

Ozzie is the head of a security company that works with the New Orleans police a lot. Right now, Ozzie and his team are working an undercover job to take down a big gang in the area. Ozzie seems like he's rough and tough but he's really a bit of a teddy bear (at least for the right girl).

The way May and Ozzie meet is a bit of a clusterfuck. May gets a text from an unknown number and because her sister was having problems with her cell, May automatically assumes that it must be her sister. The texts seem weird to May (which should have warned her something wasn't right) but she's so convinced it's her sister that she automatically follows the texts to a disreputable bar. Soon after she arrives, crap goes down in the bar and Ozzie ends up saving May from someone shooting at her. May and Ozzie don't connect immediately and go their separate ways after the bar...at least until May realizes she's being followed and she's probably in trouble. Ozzie gives her a place to feel safe but seems reluctant to have her around.

Fortunately, his co-workers kind of pull May into the group and since they need someone for surveillance, she's soon hired on (even though she's rather wishy washy about the possibility). TBH, the beginning of the relationship is rough as both Ozzie and May seem to send mixed messages a lot. It doesn't help that May is constantly verging on TSTL. She tends to jump to conclusions and then take those jumps as fact, even when evidence builds up that her assumptions are wrong. She also tends to run from her feelings or any embarrassment...she's a weird mix between blunt and wussy. Ozzie and May do manage to get past their issues and things work out so they end the story together and starting towards a HEA.

This was an enjoyable story overall. May was a decent heroine but there were times I definitely wanted to shake her (for the reasons noted above). Ozzie was a bit confusing at first but I liked him as I got to know him better. Overall, the story was good and Ozzie and May seemed to work well together once they got there.
