Publisher's summary

This audiobook is a short, no-fluff guide to writing a book that matters!

Excerpt from chapter three: "I don't personally know you or what your book will be about, but I do know this: writing your book will be an emotional roller coaster. You will go through many unpredictable highs and lows of emotion. Your inner critic and inner hero will engage in unrelenting combat until the very last word is typed. This is the grueling work of an author that our readers never see and therefore never come to appreciate.

"Encourage yourself with this thought: the emotional battle is temporary, but being an author is eternal. Your words will eventually be immortalized in print, touching the lives of others through your written legacy long after your death. This great achievement won't be handed to you; you must first earn that right. The only thing that stands in your way is the blank page (or screen) in front of you."

Great Instructional Book

The author broke down all the steps needed from start to finish. Book was very easy to understand and straight forward. He provided examples and actual steps to get you going. The book took no time to read which was great for me because I'm a mother of 3 and I was able to take great notes. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who has been thinking about writing a book.

Basic Helpful Information

This is a good introduction type book for someone who is just contemplating writing a book.

Good information. It covers the basic information that you need to know before writing and publishing a book.
The chapters are fairly short, you make it through this book quickly. It adds a few insights that I have not heard before - such as formatting. The stories are compact, not a lot of detail or overly fluffy - but they make their points.

If you are wanting more depth, I recommend reading (or listening to) Kelly Notaras's book called "The Book You Were Born to Write". That goes into a lot more depth and is especially good for those authors that plan to write a non-fiction book in the self help, memoir, spiritual, psychology type genres. Kelly is one of the teachers in the Hay House Author Publishing Writing Workshops. I have taken four of the 4 Day Writing Workshops with Hay House. That is a good course to take when you are more serious about writing and publishing your work.

Practical advice

I was in a stuck place with my writing and so I got online and purchased this book in hopes that it would
help me get unstuck and it did just that! The book was a relatively quick listen that offered some very practical advice.
I was especially helped by the concise steps laid out that need to be taken when writing a self-help book.
I had missed the problem/solution focus in my writing, so after listening to this section I revamped
my material to fit the steps and viola it started flowing much better and now makes more sense to me
as a written work. I also appreciated the encouragement by the author to keep writing my book in spite of the many challenges it will entail. And I enjoyed what Tony wrote about the purpose aspect for writing a book, which is always important to me.

This book is packed full of usable information. However the narrator was difficult to listen to.
