Finally, a LEO who can fight!

This is the best book in the series since the first one. I liked that the plot was one that was more like real life, involving local drug dealers. Some plot points were far fetched, but the characters were likable and motivations authentic. In a past review, I mentioned that none of the LEOs seemed to know how to do hand to hand combat. In this book, the male protagonist LEO knew how to fight. It made the book more entertaining because it was more realistic, making the LEO look more competent, more like real men in uniform, much more appealing.

The first book is still my favorite, but this one is a close second. I liked the female protagonist in this book very much. I know people who do equestrian therapy for special needs persons. They have big hearts, are hard working, and are the best of people. I truly wanted more information about that kind of work within the story context. It would have made an awesome book even more awesome!

Just one more thought when it comes to books like these. I just finished a Crichton / Patterson novel, and though the plot there was also far fetched, it was riddled with scientific information. Women’s novels could raise a notch if more factual information were woven into the story. I like these books but feel they could be more; if not filled with scientific facts, they could be filled with counseling advice, mediation techniques, general problem solving information, conflict resolution skills, drug addiction and recovery, information about programs like equestrian or animal therapy, etc. Eason does this, but in my opinion, she could do more of that and less of the typical “I can’t be involved because of (insert past hurt or job plans). I’m not saying take that out, but she repeats this trope too often in her books. I tend to just fast forward a lot.

I didn’t fast forward in this book, though. This book is great. The narrator was great. Overall, my favorite in the series since the first book.

Nothing in particular

I didn’t like the reader. I love the story… I can tell the reader has a fake accent.
