Publisher's Summary

It didn't matter that the ref called it a clean hit. Nico Hunter would never be the same.

Elle has a good life. A job she loves, a great apartment, and the guy she's been dating for more than two years is a catch and a half. But it's boring…and she strives to keep it that way. Too many emotions are dangerous. Her own past is living proof of what can happen when you lose control.

Then Nico walks into Elle's office and everything changes…for both of them. But what can the tattooed, hard-bodied MMA fighter and the beautiful and always-steady attorney have in common? A lot more than they bargained for.

4 Hard Hitting MMA Fightin Stars!

First, I'm a HUGE fan of books about MMA fighters so I was excited to see that Audible final released this one. Elle is a lawyer who lives a safe, normal, controlled life. She likes things uncomplicated actually quite boring. When she meets Nico, she knows he is the exact opposite of what she thinks she needs in her life. Nico was a six-foot-three, two hundred and twenty-one pounds, green eyed sex on a stick. She is helping him with a contract that he wants to get out of. Nico knows he wants her the minute he sees her. She is nothing like the women he normally goes after. He wants to do everything right with her and not screw things up. The relationship between Nico and Elle was not a perfect one since they are both characters that are trying to deal with a past that has scarred them. While Elle knows the nightmares that haunt Nico, he doesn't realize the darkness that Elle hides. While we learn what haunts Nico pretty much right away, there are only hints and pieces alluding to Elle's past. I had a feeling about what it was from the beginning, but I don't think it was meant to be a big secret. But still, when I found out the whole story, my heart broke for her. I really enjoyed this book. There was no unnecessary angst. They didn't play games with each other. They both had enough going on with past unresolved issues that they had enough insecurity and demons to battle without too much extra drama being thrown in. I loved that even though Nico had a womanizing past, he doesn't hesitate to stake a claim on Elle. He was a straight shooter and didn't have commitment issues. There were moments where this was extremely sweet and a lot of other ones where this was sexy as hell. Worth the Fight has so much emotion and an underlying beauty in the writing. It has heart and soul. It was just so easy to fall in love with Nico & Elle and to become invested in their lives. It had an epilogue that wrapped the story up really well. I’m looking forward the next story in the MMA Fighter series, Worth the Chance. The next book is about Vinny, Nico’s protégé. I’m dying to meet Vinny all grown up.

Narrator Ruins It

Most of the book is read by the female narrator. Which means she does the minority of the male character. They need to stop using her. She's fine for the female characters but her male impersination is bad. Its hard to get into a male character who's this big sexy MMA fighter when he has a lisp. Every male character she does has one, but not the females. I listen to a ton of audiobooks...over 160 a year. Won't buy another one with her as the narrator.

Dawn's Review of Worth the Fight:MMA Fighter, Book

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this book. The story was well written and the characters very well developed. The way that they interacted was fun and witty. The intelligent female lead was well balanced male lead. Even though they were both damaged by things that had happened in their past, they learned that could depend on each other to get through to overcome everything to make a future.

Corny🌽🌽🌽

I was not impressed. Maybe with a different narrator it would have seemed a little less corny.

Boooring!

Honestly, I think it's the narrators who kill the book for me. I'm only on chapter 14 and I don't know if I'll be able to finish the book. I just can't get into it. First of all, the woman's voice sounds way too old and there is no real emotion. It's all monotone and flat. And Nico's voice is too nasally and does not match at all when the character. I think just reading the book would be better than listening to the audio boom.

Pretty good start to the series :)

3.5-4 stars

This was a pretty good story. I liked both Elle and Nico and their story was enjoyable without being overly drama-filled.

Elle is a lawyer at a small law firm that she's been working at since she interned there right out of college. She's happy with her job even though the guy she's dating, William, thinks she should move to a larger firm. William is everything Elle thinks she should want in a boyfriend but their relationship is more along the lines of friends with benefits. Unfortunately, Elle's become bored with the relationship and isn't very interested in the benefits any more.

Nico is a championship winning MMA fighter that is on a break from fighting. About a year before, Nico was in a fight and a hit accidentally killed Nico's opponent. Even though they found out the guy died because of a brain aneurysm and through no fault of Nico's, he hasn't been able to face going back in the ring. He still has some endorsement deals however and it's one of those deals that brings him to Elle.

William is a lawyer that has Nico as a client and brings him to Elle to consult about his case. She agrees to help them with the issue they're having but it's clear from the first meeting that there's an attraction between Elle and Nico. William seems oblivious though and Elle is left trying to figure out how to proceed. Nico comes back to see her and asks her out but makes sure she knows it's just for a platonic dinner until she figures out where things stand between her and William. the dinner goes great and although she's a bit stressed about it, Elle quickly ends up breaking things off with William so she can go out with Nico.

Once William is out of the way, Nico and Elle find that their relationship falls into place almost easily. They fit together well and things seem good between them. There are some issues to deal with though and most of those harken back to Nico's fight that went wrong and whether or not he'll go back to fighting. And if he does go back to fighting, how will he handle his first fight back in the ring. Overall, the story wasn't majorly dramatic but Nico having to deal with what happened in order to move on, does provide some drama that has to be dealt with. I felt bad for them both but I was happy that Elle and Nico managed to get past the issues to end the story with a well deserved HEA together.

This was a pretty enjoyable story. I liked both Elle and Nico and was happy with how things turned out. The road to that ending was a bit rough but I think the story was well written overall and I'd recommend this story. :)

Ruined it

How could the performance have been better?

This female narrator should not do romance books. Other content may work fine for her but her voice ruins romance books for me. This is not the voice for a woman character in a romance book and DEFINATELY not for a male character either. I wanted to like the book but I was just too annoyed by the narration.

Simple

Not ground breaking but not bad, just a decent read with all the required elements. Fighter with baggage meets girl with baggage and it turns out that their pasts, while wildly different make them complimentary, and that baggage actually has a similar theme so, yeah, they were meant to be. Voilà the HEA.
