Publisher's Summary

In the mist-shrouded haze of the past, the world of Azeroth teemed with wondrous creatures of every kind. Mysterious Elves and hardy Dwarves walked among tribes of Man in relative peace and harmony - until the arrival of the demonic army known as the Burning Legion shattered the world's tranquility forever. Now Orcs, Dragons, Goblins, and Trolls all vie for supremacy over the scattered, warring kingdoms - part of a grand, malevolent scheme that will determine the fate of the world of Warcraft.

Slave. Gladiator. Shaman. Warchief. The enigmatic Orc known as Thrall has been all of these. Raised from infancy by cruel human masters who sought to mold him into their perfect pawn, Thrall was driven by both the savagery in his heart and the cunning of his upbringing to pursue a destiny he was only beginning to understand to break his bondage and rediscover the ancient traditions of his people. Now the tumultuous tale of his life's journey - a saga of honor, hatred, and hope - can at last be told....

Needed a different narrator

I love the story of Thrall. The narration is tough to listen to at first but gets better as the story progresses. The orcs needed a deep male voice to portray them but Christie Golden does okay.

great story narration mediocre

I loved the story and book but with all due respect Christie Golden needs to stick to her wonderful writing skills rather than narrating she tries but doesn't quite help the immersion. All-in-all I still thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook and I'm glad it finally came out, looking forward to the next one. If her narrating all the books is what it takes to get the rest of the books out in audiobook I would still happily accept it!

Miss Golden’s Magnum Opus

What can I say about this novel that others haven’t already said? It’s a great work that is worth reading. Thrall’s humble beginnings are something to behold. Truly one of Miss Golden’s greatest literary works. Her narration is awesome as well! I’d buy this a 3rd time if they could convince Metzen and Golden to perform it together.

Great book, alright narration

Lord of the Clans is a great book. The narration could be better. Having a woman narrate a book dominated by male characters and a male lead, is not the best choice, but it never becomes unbearable. and the fact that it's the author narrating does make it more acceptable. I also found it a bit confusing in the first half because it often switches between scenes which isn't communicated properly in the narration. A noticeable pause would be nice.

Excellent

Narrator wasn't as bad as some other reviews say. Narrator has good moments of tone with some scenes and characters. Good story and great establishment of characters.

Enjoyable

it took me a good while to get through this audiobook and I don't think Christie Golden is the best narrator of all time but it is clear that she enjoyed giving all these characters a voice and passion.

excellent, makes me want more

at first, it was a little hard to accept having a female voicing big ol orcs, but since she's the author, she was able to put more character into each voice. Because of this, the whole book came alive and completely drew me in. 10/10 would recommend.

The story of the real Horde.

And it also brings with it many good life lessons and values, that one can take with him/her into day to day life. Really good story, that is not too "heavy", and can be enjoyed while working.

A painful story of growing and discovery

Now knowing the struggles of the Warchief, Thrall, the evolution of the character amaze me. I always had respect for the Warchief, but now, I can only think what a worthy leader the Horde has. Excellent performance. I love Christie Golden and her talent to bring live to our loved protagonists of World of Warcraft.

Epic storytelling on its finest

I'm really impressed how Christie captured the characters on this book. Metzen helped a lot in that regard I would assume but that doesn't make Christie's job less magnificent. Her narration was also quite captivating. Thrall is portrayed 100% like you've known him through the game. You can't go wrong with this one guys. Christie Golden delivers.

Excellent story.

Has all the right elements to keep you engaged without being overrun on detail. This book would be good for those who love WoW. Probably the only book I'm considering listening to again.

Amazing story and well read

Though at first I did find the narration to be a bit, we will call it strange, it didn’t take me long to be hooked on the incredible story of Thrall and his youth. Well worth the read and if you find yourself a bit off put by the narration give it a chance it’s worth it.

Great story, narration is left wanting.

Christie Golden is a wonderful author, but she lacks something when narrating this unfortunately. The story is awesome, but hearing a woman attempt to narrate a male orcs voice is just a bit jarring. I'm not sexist by any stretch of the imagination, but she lacked the depth of voice for me, which would've made me connect with Thrall more.
