At dusk on December 8, 1941, the carrier Enterprise and her escort of cruisers and destroyers entered Pearl Harbor. Officers and men lined the rails, watching in stunned silence. The twisted, smoldering superstructure of the Arizona was still aflame, and there was a stench of charred wood and fuel oil in the air.

"Morale went to nothing just about then," said an officer on one of the escorting cruisers. "We were sick and shocked. We couldn't believe that this had happened to us." Through the night the crew of the Enterprise, under the command of Admiral William "Bull" Halsey, took on fuel, provisions, and ammunition. Before dawn it was back at sea.

Stop trying to pronounce Japanese names with a Japanese inflection. He does the same thing with German and Italian. It’s very annoying! But it’s free so I shouldn’t be complaining

Narrator is terrible

Not much new, very much like a review course in the Pacific War from the 1980s. Mostly a view from the USN standard version of events. Information from allies or Japan was glossed over. Well written though, and fairly well done considering the scope and time allotted to the story.

Good narrator

It was good for what it is and that is just a good overview of the carrier war in the Pacific. No breaking ground here nor deep analysis. Having read hundreds of books on World War II, I found it too elementary for me.

Good book for a newcomer.
