Publisher's Summary

Evil or Desperate? The Secrets of the SS Waffen Soldiers.

The Nazi Germany regime was brutal and inhumane. The atrocities that were committed by the Nazis will remain a shameful chapter in history for possibly centuries to come. This book takes a look at the SS Waffen, Hitler’s elite forces.

Beginning with a coup at the start of the war, the elite SS Waffen came to be known as the best and the most brutal. While it had its start with pure German forces, the Waffen later accepted those from other sympathetic countries. These are some of their stories.

There is the story of a Belgium soldier that started a revolution in his home country and later joined the Nazi ranks. He continued to recruit for their cause while leading troops. Starting as a low man in the trenches, he worked his way to be a trusted leader. Listen to his story of narrowly escaping the Soviet Union and his attempt to save the lives of others.

Then there is the story of a disgruntled Austrian that was itching to fight for Germany. After his home state changed to Italian soil, he served his time with the Italian army before journeying to Germany. He is known as the King of Close Combat for his time on the battlefield. He has a record of 84 close combat encounters. This is not days but separate battles in which hand to hand combat was needed. What would drive a man to risk his life so many times?

This book takes a look at the other side of the lines without judgment or endorsement. If you ever wondered what happened on the other side of the battle, this is the perfect place to start. You won't regret listening the stories of these SS soldiers.

Boring

More of a basic history lesson then deep personal experiences. Didn’t keep my attention and was kind of disappointing

Rigtig dårlig

Al for meget baggrunds historie om WW2 og SS alt for lidt individuel historie. Det der er, er overfladisk.

Mmmmmm

Loads of inaccuracies and a great deal of repetition. It tends to jump about and doesn't follow a fluid telling of a story.

Lacklustre and anecdotal

Buy this book if you literally know nothing about personalities of the SS and Waffen SS.

I bought the book because it looked like it was going to have eye witness accounts etc. It was basically a rolling bio on various key figures. It became boring, anecdotal and the narrator couldn’t even pronounce names and places correctly!

Not a great book I’m afraid. Up side was it was over quick.

not what i expected

i was expecting gripping stories of personal encounters on the frontlines, explaining the throat drying experiences and recollections of hand to hand fighting or having blister burnt hands whilst changing a machine gun barrel in the heat of heavy fighting.

instead it was the all too common dry dribble of divisions and positions, dates, times, seasons and irrelevant prussian titles and barely a scarce comment of actual combat.

i suggest the book 'adventures in my youth if after an authentic first person recollection of battle from german perspective ww2
