Lacklustre and anecdotal
Buy this book if you literally know nothing about personalities of the SS and Waffen SS.
I bought the book because it looked like it was going to have eye witness accounts etc. It was basically a rolling bio on various key figures. It became boring, anecdotal and the narrator couldn’t even pronounce names and places correctly!
Not a great book I’m afraid. Up side was it was over quick.

not what i expected
i was expecting gripping stories of personal encounters on the frontlines, explaining the throat drying experiences and recollections of hand to hand fighting or having blister burnt hands whilst changing a machine gun barrel in the heat of heavy fighting.
instead it was the all too common dry dribble of divisions and positions, dates, times, seasons and irrelevant prussian titles and barely a scarce comment of actual combat.
i suggest the book 'adventures in my youth if after an authentic first person recollection of battle from german perspective ww2
