Publisher's summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

We all know the pressure of feeling like we should be grinding 24/7 while simultaneously being told that we should 'just relax' and take care of ourselves, like we somehow have to decide between success and sanity. But in today's complex working world, where every hobby can be a hustle and social media is the lens through which we view not only others but also ourselves, this seemingly impossible choice couldn't be further from our reality.

In Working Hard, Hardly Working, entrepreneur and self-proclaimed 'lazy workaholic' Grace Beverley challenges this unrealistic and unnecessary split and offers a fresh take on how to create your own balance, be more productive and feel fulfilled.

Includes practical advice on:

  • The life-changing art of the to-do table: perfect your productivity method and do more of what you love
  • Making your routine work for you: optimise your habits and reap the benefits
  • Getting into and managing your flow: boost your creativity and enjoy your everyday
  • Engaging in effective self-care: how stepping back will help you move forwards

Insightful, curious and refreshingly honest, Working Hard, Hardly Working will make you reflect on what you want from your life and work - and then help you chart your path to get there.

PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.

I would highly recommend

Loved this book, it was great that Grace read the book herself. She so clearly articulates the thoughts and feelings of a generation young people. I would highly recommend.

Author not experienced in subject matter

I saw this book in The Times and it really resonated with me, however once I started listening, I just couldn’t get into it. I tried a few times but it sounded like a poorly written essay, using a thesaurus to bump out the work count, with no meaningful points or conclusions. The author’s blurb sounded impressive (which got me interested) however after a some basic internet digging, the blurb is an exaggerated white lie! The author is an influencer and her businesses were created using a ‘business in a box’ influencer company, cashing in on her social media following. Her (it looks like now deleted) YouTube channel was based on click bait Oxford uni/fitness/big bottom content and she has no qualifications in fitness or business (her degree was in music). I have no issues with influencers making money selling their wares, however I feel it’s pretty arrogant to market this author as an expert in business and productivity to the point she is validated enough to write a book. She has little to no experience other than graduating university in a field unrelated to her career. If she wrote about how to be a successful influencer, I wouldn’t have bought her book but at least it would be authentic. The publishers are clearly cash-grabbing from her following.

Long IG post

I felt it was basically a long Instagram rant from someone who is stating the obvious problem that everyone else is talking about with no answer to the problem. I was slightly irritated that she built a successful business through hussle culture and writes a book before she has put an alternative way of building a business from scratch to the test.

Nothing revolutionary

I really look up to Grace and everything she’s done with TALA and her online space but I have to say I didn’t get much out of this book. I thought it would be more about her journey into the work that she does when it was mostly a discussion on how to have a work life balance, with tips that I didn’t think were anything I hadn’t heard before. SMART goals, making lists, taking breaks etc. Not my favourite read (but still love Grace).

Should’ve believed the reviews

As others have said, this is just a copy of other people’s work and very wishy washy.
I could not finish the book because as well as finding her long winded way of talking tedious, i found the authors voice more hypnotising rather than inspiring.

Badly written essay

Couldn't listen to any more than the moaning of the first chapter written in a school essay style. She seamed to completely ignore that most people have to work and be productive as they are getting paid to do so, it not a choice for you to decide not to be productive that day. Perhaps it gets better but I wish I hadn't waisted my money.

Boring and Ranty

No substance to the book, all about Grace. Big disconnect as the only reason she got where she was was because of upbringing.

Very generic

I was excited to hear from a fellow gen-z entrepreneur & now author. However, everything in this book is generic regurgitated self-help that I don’t believe would bring anyone any insight on managing productivity & work. It’s a shame, would have been great to hear in more detail about the challenges she has faced.

Could've been an Instagram Post

The introduction was great! But that was all that was needed. everything else could have easily been a series Instagram posts, with the same message passed on in a fraction of the words.

Started so funny

It stared good
Good intentions
Smart
Could of been 1/4 of the size

Started best thing I ever heard, then sporadic gold but more so felt like a unhelpful rant. Stopped listening and never found the end of the story.

Some good ideas

Good message and points but probably more helpful for those in their 20s and not self employed

Better suited for younger generation

Might be more interesting to younger and non self employed readers. Great performance but it wasn’t for me.

Grace is a Gen-Z-nius!

It’s like she reached into my soul and spelled out exactly how I’m feeling, and I’m certain it resonates with others as well!
Highly recommend this book for everyone caught up is mindless hustle culture and dreaming of more. 10/10 would read again (and already started!)
Thanks Grace!

I’d recommend

I really enjoyed listening to this book, I don’t think it would be beneficial to everyone but worth giving a go.
