The words you use say a lot about you. Some words say that you are smart, eloquent, or persuasive. Others say that, uh, you don't know what you're talking about. Knowing which words to use and how to use them are keys to getting the most from your mind and making a lasting impression. Here's a quiz to help you rate the state of your vocabulary:

  • Do you know that to peruse a book is not to skim through it?
  • Do you know the difference between enormous and enormity?
  • Do you know the noun form of dubious?

If you answered no to any of these questions, you need Word Smart. Based on the best selling book, the audio Word Smart will help you learn the words you absolutely need to know!

This program features concise, accurate definitions; great examples and stories that teach words in context; and mnemonics to make it all stick.

    Great learning tool

This is a great way to learn sophisticated English Vocabulary. Unlike some other vocabulary-teaching audiobooks that just read words and definitions aloud, this one puts them in context and stories that are easy to remember. The interaction of both narrators adds to the learning experience.

    Good, effective, but without attachment

This audio version is quite useful. The conversation is clear and the little senarios at the endof each section are also fun. The major drawback is that the downloaded version does not include the text attachment it is supposed to have. Therefore, you sometimes have difficulty in spelling of each word, and you do not have a reminder card.

Other than that, I enjoyed it very much!

    Word Smart

This particular book is a first for me since I normally listen audio books for entertainment; such as sci-fi and fantasy. While the audio is entertaining with the lessons, they continously reference a written guide and this auido book does not include a written guide, nor is there anything on the Audible site that allows you to download the guide. This leaves the listener with 1/2 of the lesson without the written guide to reference the words.

    Needs the word guide

The presentation is entertaining, although contrived... it's much more entertaining than listening to a list of words and definitions dictionary style. However, the missing word guide would make all the difference in being able to review. I only listen when driving, so I probably will never make a guide myself.

Not a good choice for an audio book!!

This book would probably be O.K. if it came with a hard copy. I think most people need to actually see the word for it to sink-in.

    Need PDF of audio

Good! The content is very helpful. It is really vocabulary booster. But I could be better if we have PDF document of it too!

    Gets the job done.

Not very engaging, but by no means a waste. I feel I got something out of it, though I feel I could have been given more.

    Absolutely wrong approach

The authors grouped words into categories and as an example tried to use the same words in context. In spite of all their creativity the examples do not make an impression, in other words they are boring. It could have been much better if they just gave interesting stories with the target language without putting words in any groups and trying to use them all in one story. Sorry mind doesn't work that way. It's not an encyclopedia; it wants something authentic and interesting. And the conversations between narators (they speak to each other while explaing new vocabulary)are stupid.
My advice: Buy any other book (it should be interesting), you’ll find the same words there, but at least you won’t have to force yourself to listen to it.

I've listened to this program in the car - it is a good one to listen to but it does become a little boring after a while. I recommend listening to this in 30 minutes intervals.
