Publisher's Summary

Have you ever wanted to get into woodworking but didn't know where to start or know what size shop you will need? Maybe you like the idea of woodworking as a way to turn a profit, occupy down time, or just to learn a new skill. Or perhaps you found a field that you are interested but you don't know what tools you need to buy?

Well, you've come to the right place! There are a lot of websites, DIY instructions, and blogs out there that will show you the easy way or 'hack' of how to build furniture, but a true woodworker takes skill, knowledge, and practice to create works of art that will last generations.

very handy

This has to be one of the most comprehensive books on wood joinery. As a novice woodworker, the information found in this audio-book is invaluable. Even for the more experienced, I feel that there's plenty to learn here as well. As much info as you can find online about joinery, it's really nice to have a book that covers it all

simple guide

A great audio-book for new and old woodworkers. Very good , explaination of each joint, and the proper name for each joint.. I keep it in the shop bookcase, and refer to it frequently when the need to do a joint that is not commonly used, although the audio-book covers just about every joint very well.

Awesome ideas!

I think this is great for a novice wood worker or hobbyist. There is an introduction to some of the required tools and some tips that can help, especially for safety.

WOW

This is a great listener. That audio-book is very informative for all and sound qualification so much better! I'm new to woodworking and this has hundreds of great tips. It's covers anything you could think of and more. Great color pictures. I highly recommend.

Great for those of all skill levels

Great audio-book! It covers everything from Setting up shop, wood types and different cuts of wood. Squaring, marking and cutting. It covers all of the different joints and how to make each. Finishing is also covered. It has a ton of good color photos and illustrations in it. Tools benches and safety gear are all covered. Undoubtedly the best single all round book on woodworking I have seen to date. Based on the reviews I figured this would be nice to have, but I very pleased with the overall quality not only of the book itself, but the contents also. I would give it 5 ½ stars if I could. I inherited my father’s woodworking equipment and so I have been studying about equipment and projects. I have purchased approximately 10 + books in the last few months. This one is the one I am most pleased with.

Good coverage of basic woodworking

I thought the audio-book is limited as a guide for beginners. It frequently uses a lot of technical terms which would be unfamiliar to a beginner without explanation. These concepts could be illustrated and explained much better. The audio-book could also be far more comprehensive.

This audio-book would work really well if you want to follow it through and make the projects, or as a supplement to other woodworking books. However, there are more encyclopedic woodwork audio-books available, notably The Complete Manual of Woodworking by J.J. Sandor.

Exactly what I would like to know

Easy to listen and very enlightening to the novice woodworker. Well written and I would highly recommend it to anyone who has the inspiration for woodworking.

A great place to start

I'm taking up woodworking later in life; while I've listened a number of other audio-books that contained excellent information, this one did a much better job than the rest at giving real fundamental information on the topic. The only disappointment with this audio-book is personal; rather than solely focusing on hand tools the author recommends a blended approach that can be difficult for those of us without access to a dedicated or shared shop. In my urban townhouse there simply isn't room for some of the larger equipment. There are some instructions on how to accomplish the same tasks with hand tools, however this is less of a focus for the text.

Well it's time to make my own wood shelving so....

I wanted a audio-book I could use as a primer and then a resource. Woodworking Basics is one of four, which I bought for my home hobby library. It's perfect for the first time woodworker.

A great place to start

A great starter audio-book for anyone looking to get into woodworking. It is a very rewarding craft and can even lead to some money if you are willing to put the time in. This audio-book goes over everything you should need to know starting out about woodworking in an easy to understand and organised manner. Would make a great gift for someone who is interested in DIY projects or someone looking for a hobby.
